Target Accident

wooded area with his best friend.

woods to get help after the shoot
ing. But when police arrived he
was nearly hysterical and hsd lost
all sense of direction. All six police
men hunted for 30 minutes, before
locating Perrero's body, which had
rolled part way under a bush.
Allendcr was held at Northwest
ern police station.

"My granddaughter and my secre
tary wore urging me to see a show
called The King and I." I didn't
want to go, but they ware so per
sistent that I had to. When we
arrived at the theater, they sat
on eacn aiae oi me. so they could
nudge me If 1 fell asleep.
"During the first act. they won
dered why I said nothing. I
couldnt. I was seeing a rare
theatrical experience a perform
ance of dramatic Integrity."
When the curtain went down.
DeMilie wanted to know who play
ed the King. When told It was Yul
Brynner, he said "What is that?"
Ha had never heard of the actor,
whose name indeed sounds like a
Christmas log or something.
The director strode backstage,
spoke to Brynner for a few min
utes and assigned him the role of
Ihe Pharaoh. They shook hands on
the deal. "Then we turned the de
tails over to his agents and to
Paramount and we both ran," said
DeMilie.
Brynner told the story from his
side: "I had been warned that
DeMilie was in the theater. That
merely added to the nervousness
I gel every time the half-hour
warning Is given before a perform
ance. But after the show started.
I was too busy to think about
it. I wasn t able lo see his
resctlon. ...
"In four years. I have never had
a visitor between acts of the show
except Mr. DcMllle. There sre
only 7 '4 minutes between acts.

had to goon-stage again, I had not

mandments' with him, but another

Eagle-Lion, "Port of New York.
