Three tips to veterans who have
special Korean CI Insurance were
offered by Veterans Administra
tion.
"Almost 100,000 post-Korean vet
erans." va announced, "have ta
ken out asocial term insurance
available to them upon .separation
irom active service."
Tot these new policy holders, and
to those who plan to purchase the
low-cost troverament insurance,
VA has this advice:
First, get into the habit or pay
ing all premiums when they sre
due. Although the lsw allows
"grace period" of 31 days during
which the policy remains in effect
even if the premium due is not
paid, veterans should consider this
provision an emergency measure
and save it for such an emergency.
Second, DO NOT SEND CASH
through the mails in paying pre
miums, use a cnecK or money or
der made payable to the Treasurer
of the United States. Your can
celled check or money order stub
will be your receipt.
Third, make sure to name your
beneficiaries and have this infor
mation recorded by VA. This may
be done through any VA office.
And a final bit of advice for
those veterans of the Korean Con
flict who have been discharged
only a few weeks: If you plan to
keep your GI insurance, you have
only 120 days after separation
from military service in which to
apply for the special insurante.
Note that 130 days and that
doesn't mean four months, VA
warns. One day too late and you
lose.

August 30, 1M3, my deadline for
starting training under the Korean
Gi sill is this coming August 20.
Must I actually be in school on
that date. In order to continue
afterwards?
A. Not necessarily. You must,
under the law, begin your training
neiore that date, in order to con
tinue later. Bo long as you stsrt In
time, you won't be required to be
in training on the date itself.

PARIS I A spokesman for the
Russian ballet barred from per
forming here by French authorities
said today the troupe had been
ordered home by the Soviet gov
ernment. He charged the French
ban hindered "strengthening of cul
tural relations" between the two
nations.
The spokesman read the an-
j.nouncement in Russia at a news
conference and left the room be
fore it was translated. There was
no opportunity for questions.
The troupe will leave Le Bourget
Airfield for Brussels today, the
spokesman said and fly home via
Brussels and Prague.
The Russian dancers arrived in
Paris two weeks ago, but shortly
before their scheduled opening the
French fortress of Dien Bien Fhu
fell. The French government de
cided to cancel the first two per
formances and postponed the re
maining ones indefinitely for fear
of ant! -Communist demonstrations.
Later British Impresario Peter
Daubeny invited the troupe to
come to London for two or three
weeks of performances beginning
May 24.
The statement from the director,
Michael Tchoulakl, said that the
division of the French government
was "unilateral" and "baaed
motives which cannot be consid
ered valid."

Minister Nehru said today India
would consider a role to promote
peace settlements In Indochina and
Korea.
Nehru told Parliament his gov
eminent was not "angling" for an
invitation to the Geneva talks on
the two Issues. But he sdded, if
India were asked to take part in
a settlement "we cannot avoid go
ing and act as we did in Korea."
It marked the first time Nehru
had publicly indicated India would
be willing to take a nana in tne
Korean and Indochina Issues.
Nehru's speech led off a foreign
policy debate in Parliament's low
er house. He said that peace can
not be Imposed on Korea and Indo
china, but must be negotiated. He
added that both conflicts represent
deadlocks between equal power

Ends With Jury Deadlocked
NEW YORK lP) The trial of
Joseph P. Ryan, once powerful
waterfront labor boss accused of
stealing union funds, has ended in
a mistrial with the Jury "hopeless
ly deadlocked." ,
Nearly 30 hours after the case
was turned over to the Jury, it
filed back into court last night to
announce that two Jurors on the
all-male panel held firmly against
the other 10 blocking a verdict.
Outside the court room, the Jury
foreman said the vote had been
10 to 3 In favor of finding Ryan
guilty. ,
The onetime dbekworkers'
leader,' robust and strong in his
heyday but now ailing at the age
of 10, bad been Indicted on tl
grsnd larceny counts accusing him
of diverting S48.000 in union Hinds
to bis own use. During the trial
the counts were reduced to 43,
totaling 117,000.
Ryan betrayed little strain
throughout the Jury's long delibera
tions. Much of the time he simply
sat silently and still, occasionally
talking with relatives and friends.
In his defense. Ryan claimed he
took union money only to reim
burse himself for out-of-pocket "ex
penses incurred in his fight against
communism on the waterfront.
The state attempted to show that
Ryan had dipped Into the union
till to provide himself with such
things as a cruise to Guatemala,
golf club dues. Insurance, auto re
pairs and cosily haberdashery:
Ryan, who gets a 110,000 pension
