Bernice (Bernie) Heidemanh, prominently identified with Klamath Fells' civic and social life, daughter of
Mrs. Iva Biggerstaff, Pendleton, Oregon, became the bride of Drayton Phillips, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Phil

William Phillips, distinguished career diplomat, Is a former undersecretary of state: ambassador to Bel
glum; ambassedor to Italy; minister to the Netherlends) and first United States minister to Canada. Tha bride
groom's mother Is the former Caroline Astor Drayton.
Dr. Charles Raymond Barker was officiant at the quiet Informel 4 p.m. ceremony in the First Church of
Religious Science, New York City, April 21. The bride was ettended by Annette Sherry, Cairo,. Egypt; .and the
bridegroom's father served as best man. .
l As the son of a diplomat, Drayton Phillips ecqulrtH mueh of his schooling in oher countries. He attended
the University of Lausanna In Swltiarland; and the University of Freibargen, Breisgen, Germany. He also was grad
uated from Avon Old Farms Preparatory School in Cin tctlcut.
He first worked for the Boston branch of tha BanV of Nova Scotia. In 1941 he began his four and one
half years wifh (he navy; three and ena-helf of them in active duty In European waters. He was In tha first as
saults In the invasion of North Africa; later assigned to commands in Englend, France end Germany. '
