VOTERS IN THE TULELAKE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DIS
TRICT will 90 to the polls Friday, May 21, to ballot on the
proposal to acctpt state aid, not to exceed $320,000, and en
the proposition to bond the school district for $176,000, to
build now elementary school building on the site of the pres
ent school. School board members' will also be balloted en.
Plans for the one-story modern building, in the office of
Howard Perrin, architect, Kiamath 'Falls, call for incorporation
of the original unit, built several years ago and still in good con
dition. The wing built from buildings moved to the site from
the former war relcoation center at Newell will be torn down.
The original unit was built to earthquake specifications.'
The new wing, of frame construction, south of the central
building, will include 10 classrooms, 30 x 40 feet each. Radiant
lighting in the ceilings and acoustic wall tiles will be installed.
A multi-purpose room for a gymnasium and cafeteria is planned
I to occupy space in front of the classrooms. Tabid and benches
can be recessed into the walls after meal hours. A kitchen,
cooler rooms, pantry and large storage space for indoor and
outdoor equipment are planned.
The administrative offices, first aid room, teachers' room
and supply depot will connect the multi-purpose room and the
present unit. A kindergarten, with access to the main buildinq,
to the north is planned, with sheltered sandbox, fenced yard
and equipment, Including lavatories, built to a five-year-old
scale.
Present enrollment Is 290 students. The new building will
accommodate 490.
Tulelake and Winema elementary school districts were con
solidated by ballot of voters last spring. The Winema School
was the first built in the Tulelake area and was located on the
west side of the lake.
