Cold Canadian air surging
southeastward put a dull on the
balmy spring weather in most ol
the Midwest Thursday.
The mass of cold air covered
tlx north central section and e
tended southward Into Texas. It
continued to move south and e ail
ward. The leading edge of the
cold front extended from North
eastern Ohio southwestward along
the Ohio J.ver and Into Eastern
Texas.
Temperstu.es generally were
below tree. In the Northern
Plains and Northern Great Lakes
region and extended southward in
to part of Nebraska, lows and
Wisconsin. Snow flurries fell In the
Northern Great Lakes.
The storm center that moved
eastward across Lake Superior
Wednesday wsa blamed lor at
least live tornadoes in Illinois.
Wisconsin and Michigan, mostly
In rural areaa. The storm system
pulled cool and dry Canadian air
southward into contact with warm
and moist air I ram the gull.
One woman waa killed and 13
persons injured In a tauter that
struck hear Kankakee, In North
eastern Ulinoia. Several persons
also were injured In a small tor
nado that hit Swan Creek, near
Flint, Mich.
The twtatera destroyed scores of
farm buildings, killed some live
stock and disrupted communica
tions. Showers and thunderstorms were
quit general east of the cold
lront. Heavy rains and hall, with
strong winds, hit sections of North
ern and Western Texas. Some
bouses w era unroofed and power
lines knocked out.

most of the southern ball of the
nation, and along the East Oolf

Conviction

E. Merl Young, a key figure In
tha Senate's h-aH nn-m. nrn. in
vestigation of Reconstruction Fi
nance corp. operations.
At the same time the court over
turned the perjury couvlcilon of
Young's older brother, Herschel
Young.
The brothers, tried separately,
each received a sentence of four
months to two years. Both have
been at liberty on bond pending
the outcome of their appeals.

The car overturned four times
and bounced off the highway and
up into a tree. The front axle
caught on a branch 12 feet from
the ground.
Orinsby climbed down and police

his arms and legs and sent him

to employers to give probationers
a chiuicc to work.
"Before a man is placed on pro
bation." Paulsen explained, "his
ea.se Is given most careful consid
eration. If the court Is not thor
oughly convinced the subject wants
lo make good probation will not be
granted."
According to records In Uie pro

seeking Jobs.
Paulsen said many probationers
are applying for permission to

"The probationer is laced with
two choices," he added. "When he
applies for a Job, he can either
conceal the fart that he Li on pro
bation or come clean with the pros
pective employer. In the first In
stance, he may get the Job an I
