Meeting
; "Our Spanish-Speaking Neighbors
In the Southwest" was the subject
; of the March program for the Meth
odist Women's Society of Christian
Service. Program chairman, Mrs.
Elsie Burton, was presented by
' Mrs. John Yadon, general program
" chairman for the WSCS.
Mrs. Burton outlined the purpose
of the program in her Introduc
tion and then presented Mrs. How
ard Hanka, Mrs. Robert Johnson,
Mrs. Kenneth Dykeman and Mrs.
Arthur Parr who conducted a pan
el discussion on the subject. Mrs.
Parr recited the Lord's Prayer In
Spanish,
Adding a Spanish touch were the
Costumes, sarapes and Mexican
Jewelry, worn by Mrs. Parr and
Mrs. Johnson, and pieces ol Mexl
can pottery about the room. '
Violin solos, "La Paloma" and
, "La Oolondrina," were played by
- Mrs. Johnson, accompanied at uie
piano by Mrs. Hanka.
Mrs. Elsie McNee was present-
Id a going-away gift by the society.
Tea. coffee and cookies were
' served by the tea committee, Mrs.
. Irving Chambers, Mrs. Harvey
Schrenk and Mrs. Howard Hanka.

Harold Sturgeon, First Christian
Church, say that details of the ban
quet are progressing. -
The banquet will be held Satur
day, April 30, at 8 p.m. at 'Pell-
can Court, KUHS. Tickets will be
issued for the seating capacity
available, and will go on sale at
the start of the convention for as
long as they last. The limited num
ber of tickets is to insure quality
service and to enable the banquet
committee to order a sufficient
quantity of food, according to Mrs.
Bell and Elton Fishback who heads
the central committee. Adequate
settings are expected for all ex
pected to attend.
Mrs. Bell has expressed her grat
itude to H. A. Swisegood, who Is
in charge of the cafeteria at OTT,
for his assistance in making rec
ommendations and suggestions for
handling the large crowd expected.
Swisegood has shared with the com
mittee bis experience in volume
cooking and serving, as regards
arrangement of tables, sizes of ais
les, number of waitresses required
and the quantity of food to be pre
pared.
Another special attraction at the
banquet will be a backdrop behind
the speakers' table. Mrs. William
Ainley of Mt. Laki Community
Church has agreed to paint a scene
of Crater Lake for that purpose,

waitress died because she ab
sorbed carbolic acid through the
skin during a complexion treat
ment.
The acid caused a respiratory
paralysis. Dr. Frederick Newbarr
told a jury yesterday at the man
slaughter trial of Mrs. Mary Penny
59. The victim was Mrs. Kay Stan
ley, 32.
Newbarr said Mrs, Stanley's
lungs and heart were good. The
prosecutor told the jury Mrs. Pen
ny operated without a state license
and used a carbolio acid solution
that was .too strong for a face
peel. . ,
