I Irene Poteet is one of three city-employed women meat inspectors, working under Dr. J.
C. Hunt, city sanitary inspector.
' Her day starts by 7 a.m. when she girds for hours of work at Brafton's on the Keno High
1 way. She is ready for battle when the first animal goes into the killing room, waiting to delve

eagle' eye for the faintest trace of any indication that the carcass is not up to the standard
set by state and federal inspection laws. No stamp of approval is ever put on a dressed ani
mal unless it meets' those standards. ,
Here is no job for a "squeamish gal." One who swoons at a nicked finger had better
stay "ong gone" from a killing plant, yet Irene Poteet manages to look groomed and serene
in surroundings that Would test the mettle of many a man. She looks at a swinging beef with as
much interest as though she were siiing up a Dior satin windbreaker or a Lanvin-Castillo favor
ite in white organdy.
She comes from a family of, butcher and that no -doubt accounts for her poise in a for
est of cooling halves of beeves. Her grandfather, in business in the mid-west, was followed in
the trade 'by her father, now retired. Her brother Bob Poteet operates a shop in JurgenSon's on
Oregon Avenue and Irene Poteet studied animal husbandry and agriculture in Miami Junior
College at Tahlequah, Oklahoma. - '.-'. .
.She taught a; primary grade fothree, years, then learned the fur finishing business, work
ing in that field for Seven years, managing a store during part of that time.

ary, teaches English to aspirants to U.S. citizenship ... is a member of the Christian Church
and skims around a dance floor for recreation.

Until she came fo our town, Irene Poveet "never dreamed" of entering the field she now
serves in. "They needed someone, and well, here I am," said this attractive woman with the
flashing smile.

chins and cheeks -with "an up
ward, outward motion," under the
instruction of Mrs. Charles Klem
and Mra. Harold Thompson, during
their demonstration of "Home Care
Of the Skin," on March 6. .
The cleansing cream made of
white ' wax; spermaceti, mineral
oil, distilled water and borax, was
cooked and whipped at Joan's
Kitchen ' by the leaders to show
how it ekn be made at home.
Skin ireshener made with
boric acid, boiling water and
fragrant scent, followed removal
of the cream with tissues, A last
touch was with fineer-tlo dabs of
tissue cream made of oil of sweet
almonds, white wax, : spermaceti
lanolin and rose water.
Mrs. ' Thompson demonstrated
the correct way to apply makeup
over the tissue cream for a foun
dation. The leaders both empha
sized that beauty Is not essential
to good grooming. Few are beauti
ful but all women can be attractive,
neat, clean and well-groomed.
During the business meeting,
Mrs. Neva Hayes, chairman, an
nounced a training meeting for
Textiles." to be held two weeks
before -the Homemaker's Festival
in May. She asked for volunteers
to attend, since "Textiles" Is the
project to be presented in cooper
ation with one outer umi at we
festival. ' - '

in a clothing workshop will be
voted on later.
