"Every automobile driver should
be reauired to pass a vision test
upon renewal of his driver license
every two vears," Dr. Carol Prstt,
president ot the Oregon Optome
try Association, declared today as
the 97th annual Save Your Vision
Week got under way.
"It is preposterous to assume
that a driver's vision never chang
es, or that it is the same- at 40
or 60 as it was when he got his
first license," Doctor Pratt said.
"Everybody knows that it is not,"
yet driving licenses are repeatedly
renewed on the basis ot tne iirst

"This archaic practice is probab
ly costing hundreds of lives In high
way accidents every year."

provements in vision testing by the
Drivers License Division of the De
partment of State has resulted in a
definite upgrading of driver vision,
but that there is need to provide

foot ravine yesterday. Nine per

The program over an Ottawa
station offers the pot to the lucky
listener who Identifies a mystery
man from clues given out each
week, until a winner comes up,
the pot goes up S50 a week. It's
up 10 now. ,; 1
For the past month a lot of lis
teners have decided Howe is their
man. He's Canada's trade minis
ter and sitting In for world-touring
Prime Minister Louis St.Laurent.
Each program touches off a new
bedlam of clue-checking calls to the
Howes.
The Mrs. calls the whole thing
"a nightmare."
"We can't sit down to a meal.
I can't start a letter. It's impossi
ble to read the paper without the
phone ringing," she told an inter
viewer. The callers have asked whether
Howe wears a hearing aid, a wig,
false teeth. Does he own a gold
mine, or a million dollars? Is he
partial to sauerkraut and pretzels?
Where does he buy his clothes
and for how much? -
"Two weeks ago I called the
station and told them that unless
they could bring the contest pro
gram -to an end quickly, I would
sue for the prize money,". Mrs.
Howe continued. ,
The callers have pulled the min
ister out of the House of Commons
chamber and pestered turn at his
several offices, but he finally In
structed his staff to intercept
them.' ,- - ' -What
the sometimes sharp-
tongued Howe tells the information
hunters,' Mrs. "Howe did not say.
