I niESDAY, FEBRUARY 16, 1964 MRALP AMD NSWS. KLAMATH WAUM. ORXOOH rum nri" 1 MACDOEL By MARY MEYERS noRRISTbe second burglary In borrls within Jour days revealed fhi.riirtav morning when Butte talley high school's front door was ound open, muoe. m me jjiu;i isl'a office pried open, and 90 or liiore missing. . Principal Harry Beck said Cus- Indian A. V. Jacobson noticed the open front door about 7:15 a.m. Thursday as he parked his car at Ihe school to go to work. The hasp of the main door had i,,n broken. The door to Beck's office pried open and the door to a closet where the money was kept had been shattered. Later. Jacobson discovered thai the back door to the boiler room been pried open and the room en tered, but nothing there was be lieved missing. Beck usiea as missing a monsy box with 85 change, used at ath letic events In the gym; J8.40 col lected at last Friday's assembly and between $80 and $100 deposited by students tor pictures, pius tne records of the1 picture payments. He said damage to the building was covered by insurance, but the money is not. - ' The intruder or intruders over looked another $5 In change In the closet, Beck said. - The school ordinarily has little or no money on hand, banking it each day, But Beck said C. Jean Mc Donald, the commercial teacher and faculty treasurer, was ill Wed nesday and not at schol so the lunds were left in the money bax. Beck and Coach Ernest Fiunti had both been In the school Wednesday evening and had no ticed nothing amiss. Beck said he called Police cmei Fenton Malm to investigate and that Mahrt told him he passed the school about mid night Wednesday, after patrolling the north end of town -In answer to a call that there was a prowler, and had noticed nothing wrong. Two Dorris boys, 13 and 14 years old, are in the Siskiyou county Jail awaiting action by the juvenile court on charges of burglarizing the Butte Valley Hardware and Supply on Third Street in Dorris of a quantity of guns and ammu nition Saturday evening of last week. They also face the charge of burg larizing the Dorris Post Office on two successive nights and taking several pounds ot man irom the boxes. Ralph Miller, owner of the hard- Ware store, said the first he knew of anything being wrong was at about 9:18 a.m. Sunday when Henry Carroll, who rents the apartment at the rear of tile store, phoned him to complain that the electricity was off and the front door glass of the shop was broken. Miller found the electric clock stopped at about 11 by an unscrewed fuse in the box controlling both store and apart ment circuits. Entrance had apparently been gained through the broken door glass, the Intruders letting them selves out bv a door onto the alley. Miller then called Dorris offi cers, Penton Mahrt and Clarence Houston, and the Siskiyou county sheriff's office at Yreka to report the burglary, The case became unsnarled not long after when the older brother of the 13-year-old by Tjrought him into the store to ask if a handful of change, several new cartridges and a check were Miller's. The money and shells were from the store, Miller said, but the unen dorsed check, for Joe Allen's pay as countv supervisor, was not. An investigation at the home of the other boy turned up shells, a shot gun and mail. The pistols, carbines and hunt ing knives turned up in various hiding places. The serial numbers oi tne guns cnecnea witn inn nara wave store records, Lester E. Newton, county proba tlon officer, has been questioning tne boys and investigating the case. New members of the Butte Val ley 4-H Club this year are Charles Cross, Dale Johnson, Judy- Oarey, nancy Craddock, Diana Komson Maryetta Frost, Judy Fenwick, Linda Kay Crawford and Orville ?itts. Membership is now up to Andy May of Mt. Hebron entered me navy hospital at oalcisnd Jan uary 18 and is still there under mccllcifl observation. George Tumbleson of Mt. Hebron was called east last week by the serious 11 mess of his brother. Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Knylor and auiiiy have returned from a month's trio east to visit relatives. District Ranger C. A. Abell and oiarence Jacobson were at a for est ranger meetins at Shasta Na tional Forest headquarters at Mt Shasta Tuesday and Wednesday.
