T7 Electric Ceop Holds Meeting CHEMULT At a recent meet ing of the local committee of Mid state Co-op., representative of the RE A Fred Hartt of Washing ton, DC, led the group on a study of factors involved in establishing feasibility of a $699,000 loan to Mldstate Electric for building transmission distribution lines to this area. Several new members have been added to represent the people of Christmas Lake, Fort Rock and Silver Lake in Northern Lake County. The Co-op heretofore was composed of members from Des chutes and Upper Klamath Coun ty. Phil Pitman, R. A. Long and Al Baert were selected for the new area to be serviced if the loan goes through. Manager of the co-op, George Larimer, announced the annual meeting to be held March 16 at LaPlne. Nine new board members will be elected and other business brought before the membership. The meeting will be held in the LsPlne High School gym. This is the most important event of the year, and all members of the coop are urged to attend. On the program for tne annual meeting is election of two directors from Crescent, two from Chemult, two from LaPlne and one each from Crescent Lake, Silver Lake and Fort Rock. A nominating commit tee, representing the geographic boundaries has been chosen. Fur ther nominations will be made from the floor. Indochina Air Aid Inspected TOKYO Wl At least 12 Amer ican B26 medium bombers and 260 U.S. airmen are based at two coastal airfields in Indochina, Gen. O. P. Weyland, U.S. Far East Air Force commander, said Monday. Weyland, who returned Thurs day from an Inspection tour of the war-torn land, emphasised that the Americans are "non-combatants and act solely as technical ad visers and expert mechanics" for plt nes "applies as a part of the regular assistance program to tne French forces." He said In a written statement to the press that a dozen B26s were delivered to Indochina "on the first shipment and more de parted from FEAF sources Sat urday." He did not say how many more. The technicians and mechanics for the B26s and an unspecified number of C47 military transport planes furnished the French "arc not in or near a major combat area," Weyland asserted. "They sre well housed and provided for. There is little or no risk to them physically." Tho lorum continues through rucsany. Children Saved By Emergency Crews PITTSBURGH Wl Samuel Irwin, 13, had his first headache last night. Police say it may have saved his life and the lives of his 5-year-old brother Bill and their mother, Mrs. Jenny Irwin. Noticing the younger son dosing after Samuel complained of the headache, Mrs. Irwin suspected leak from a newly installed gas heater. She called police and the gas company. Emergency crews found a 100 per cent concentration of carbon monoxide fumes. The buys and their mother were rushed to a hospital for emergency oxygen. Several hours later they were released in good condition. Mother Has Child After Tragedy PHILADELPHIA W A 31-year-old mother who almost drowned five days ago in a vain attempt to save the life of her 4-year-old son and a companion gave birth to a son yesterday. Mrs. Betty Mitchell Jumped Into an Ice-covered abandoned quarry last Tuesday when her son Michael and friend Michael Collins fell through the ice trying to retrieve a golf ball. Wl Butte Mi ners' Union No. 1, stalled in its bid for a National Labor Rela tions Board election, moved Sun day for a District Court election to determine Its bargaining agent. The action was voted by an estimated 800 miners affiliated with the International Union of Mine, Mill ti Smelter Workers (Ind), They are warring with a group affiliated with the United Steel Workers ot America (CIOi over what union shall represent them. The steel workers' group blocked a proposed NLRB election through legal action. It Insisted instead that a vote be held Jointly by Butte miners and Anaconda smel- termen in a single bargaining unit. An NLRB examiner said a hear lng will be held here about March 1 on tne dispute. Dist. Judge John B. McClergnan warned, however, that should there be "failure, refusal or Inability on an election by March 1, the court would appoint an impartial labor relations noard of its own.
