Selvage Aid" To Towels Selvage edges are the key to towel construction, according to research technicians at the American Institute of Laun dering. For best service, select towels with selvage edges in which each width yarn goes to the outside edge and passes around the length yarn. Hems should be on the straight of the material with adequate turn-under allow ance and securely fastened ends. They should be Jock-stitched, leaving no raw edges. To test terry towels for long wear, hold them up to the light If tiny points of light show through, the towel has a close, even weave and will give good service. If patches of light show through, the towel is loosely woven and will not wear well. Close, large, loosely twisted and thickly packed loops mean that a towel will be absorbent and will give good service. In the deep-color towels check the labels for color fastness.
