Control Commission Friday.
Mnyor Dean Dorscy. who Thurs
day vetoed an ordinance approving
llquor-by-the-drink, agreed that six
applications for sale or liquor by
the glass could be forwarded to
the commission with council ap
proval. The City Council passed
the ordinance Monday by a 8-4
vote.
?ut Dorjcy and Councilman Ray
Smith, who led the fight for the
ordinance, disagree on how the
commission should consider the ap
plications.
Dorsey contends the commission
should consider Corvallis1, which
doesn't oven have a state liquor
store, still dry. Smith argues that
the council's action In turning down
a report recommending retention
of the city's 311-yenr-old dry policy
cancels uie policy.
Dorsey nctcd'to forward the an-
plicatlons after smith said the wets
were prepared to force the mayor
to call a special council meeting 11

plications had Been held at the city
hull while the council debated the

received and appears set for a
year's run and perhaps much lon

Sterlings will be tied down to the
TV film grind. I asked how they
like that.
"It's a rugged life," she said.
"We're up euriy In the morning
and home late at night. We've
been in town a couple of months
and most of our friends don't even
know we're here. We haven't had
time to see them."
"We make one half-hour show
in three .days and do two a week,"
he said, "We work three weeks
and have one week off."
"Our big night of the week Is
Saturday night," she said, '"no
matter how tired we are, we go
out on the town. But we never
see our friends, because Holly-,
wood people don't go out on Sat
urday night. By 11:30, we start
yawning and fighting to stay
awake."

"Sometimes I feel as If it's all
for nothing," she said. "You do
one, they put It in the can and
you start another one. I miss the
reaction you get with a live aud-
"But you an't knock success,"
he said. "If this snow catches on
and we've had ood reports on
it it will be great for us. The
important thuig in our business
is to have a hit, no matter what
medium it is in."
Anne and Bob can share a bit
of satisfaction in returnmg in
triumph to H ol 1 y w o o d. They
weren't given a chance to show
their potentialities In the movies.
Anne has a fine soprano voice,
but she was never allowed to dis
play It In films. When she was
under contract to RKO, she was
generally relegated to cowpokc
dramas.
Bob was rising , fast at MCM
before the war. Spencer Tracy
picked him to play in "A Guy
Named Joe," and he was all' set
lor the role. A notice from Uncle
Sam ended all that. Van Johnson
got the part and rose to stardom.
"I came back from the war and
found I was 14th in line for roles,"
he said. "I didn't work for a
whole year, and I begged to be
released. Paramount, Warners and
Universal wanted to sign me. Tke

Alley."
They started working together
when Anne's mother dropped an
