Language Barrier
Surmounted; Test
Flunked Anyhow
SHAWNEE. OklR. lAV-Hiirhway
Patrol Examiners Fred Green and
George Helms bumped head on
into a linguistic road mock when
they attempted to test Michael
Szaizko, & 40 -year-old displaced
Russian.
Szaizko doesn t sneak English.
His wife, a displaced German,
speaks German and Russian but
English. Their daughter-
Wanda, 6, could speak German
and English but not Russian.
So Green and Helms first tried
lo give the test by talking to the
girl, who told Mama, who told
Papa. The answers came back the
same route, except it all got too
con I using.
Bo another displaced German,
jciri jooio, a mechanic here, was
called In. Ho speaks German and
English and passed on the Ques
tion a to the wife who relayed t',em
to Sznizko.
He promptly flunked the driving
teat.

TOWER TALK
By KLSIK BAKKKR
From time to time we have been
asked to explain the fundamentals
of the O round Observer Corps. It
ts our belief, if more people really
understood the OOC and Its oper
ation, perhaps we could get more
volunteers, which we bndly need.
At least we miKht stop some of the
ridicule to which we are subjected
at times, because we all believe
in It.
The top picture above shows what
happens when an "aircraft flash"
from Klamath Falls is received at
the Portland Filter Center. II Is re
produced from the Air Force "Con
tact'' niftpa.ine through the cour
tesy of the Herald nd News.
The lower halt of the cut shows
a diagram of the filter board and
the key personnel who follow
through on an "aircraft flash."
