the Coca Cola Company to glittering Monday night when she threw the master switch that
put the 40-by-28 foot sign in operation. Located on top of the Coca Cola plant at Spring
and Main, the sign is the biggest electrified billboard between Portland and San Francisco, ac
cording to C. M. Gilmore, builder. Of all aluminum construction, the sign contains 1625 light
bulbs and 2700 feet of neon tubing.

Bands To Battle
At Red Barn
A "Battle of the Bands" will be
the highlight of Saturday eve
ning, Oct. 24, at the Red Barn at
Dorris, according to Dick Fen
wick, owner.
Pitted against Peewee Stidham
and his Rainbow Melody Boys, who
favor the Western motif strongly,
will be Ben Shepherd's Candlelight
ters, imported from Oregon State
College at Corvallis.
The Candlelighters specialize In
hot licks in the modern manner,
with Osvaldo (Ozzie) Magallanes
of Worden, and a graduate of
Butte Valley High School at Dor
ris, at the piano. Ozzie had his
own band in the Klamath Basin
before the army took him to
Korea. Wow he is an OSC student.
Fenwick said the competing
bands will each play an hour and
patrons can Judge for themselves
which type music they , prefer.
