Radio, Normal Family Life

her life a year ago. The show,
which appears on CBS radio Sun
days and NBC TV tonight, came
up when she was a fulltlme wife
and mother and part-time actress.
Mow the situation Is reversed.
When she's making the TV
films, she's up at 5:30 in the morn
ing six days a week. Between the
spurts of film production, she rec
cords the air show with her co
star, Charles Farrell. .Any spare
time she has left over is taken
up with her official duties as hon
orary mayor of Sherman Oaks,
publicity, etc. Last summer she
also scored a smash as a night
club singer In Las Vegas, Nev.
"I'm busy, all right," sighs Gale,
who is Just as pert and pretty in
person as she is on TV. "I may
be rationalizing I'm an expert at
that but I tnink all this activity
Is good for my family. '
"When I do have time to de
vote to mv boys, I can give my
full attention to it. A lot of full
time mothers see their kids
much that they never really ap
preciate them.
"And because I am so busy, the
boys get more companionship
from their father than other boys
generally do. That's all to the
good." ;
The boys are Philip, 10, Peter,
7, and Paul, 6. Their father Is
Lee Bonncll, who gave up a limp
ing film career to become a crack
Insurance salesman.
When "My Little Margie" made
such demands on her time, Gale
had to hire a housekeeper. (Gale
said she is a "medium lousy"
cook herself and now has almost
forgotten how.) To make up for
her absence, dinner-time is devot
ed to the boys.
"When I was working in pic
tures, the boys couldn't understand
why i had to be away," she ex
plained. "I'd make a movie that
wouldn't be out for six months or
more. But now they understand
whv I'm gone. Thev can hear the
radio show on Sundays and watch
the TV show on Wednesdays. They
take a pride In 'My Little Mar
gie' themselves." '

Entertainer Fined
On Driving Counts
CHICAGO (JTh-Hal Block, radio
and television figure, was convict
ed of speeding and driving without
a driver's license yesterday and
was fined a total of 130 by Munici
pal Judge George B. Weiss.
Judge Weiss dismissed a drunk
driving charge against the 40-year-old
entertainer after policeman
Robert Dwyer testified that Block's
car was not weaving In and out of
traffic on the Outer Drive June 25.
Block said he had had "one or
