Dr. Alfred C. Klnsey authorized
publication today of the scientif
ic findings In his long-awaited ec
ond book. "Sexual Behavior In the
Human Female."
It is more than Just statistics or
candid confessions of what women
do. By comparing men and wom
en, It offers keys for happier mar
riages and sounder sex laws. Five
unusual chapters tell the full sci
ence of sex. Some main findings
are: ..
Ten per cent of wives remain
frigid, never experiencing a sex
ual climax, oo ao zs per cent oi
older single women. Yet many
such inexperienced women advise
youths about sex, or help draft
sex . laws.
One in four wives 28 per cent
more at some time commits
adultery, whereas about half of all
husbands ultimately have extra
marital affairs. Some husbands en
courage wives to do so.
About half of all women have sex
relations before marriage, about
half of them Just with fiances.
Only about two thirds ever reach
climax in tnese premarital re
lations. '
Most women reach a peak of sex
ual activities about the age of 27
or 28. Once they reach It It can
be earlier or later than that they
usually maintain a steady level of
activity, until their 60s or 60s, with
little decline from aging.

But most men 'reach a peak of
activity In their late teens, then
steadily decline with age. The male
peak is most often far higher than
women's, so that male activity re
mains higher throughout life than
the activity of most females.
But the fact Is most men are
growing old In sexual capacity
When their, wives, are becoming
more interested and less inhibited
In sex. This difference often leads
to marital problems. Its still a
mystery why women don't show
this aging effect.
Of 33 kinds of psychological
arousals toward sex, only . three
stimulated higher percentages of
women than men. These three
were seeing romantic - movies,
reading romantic literature, and
being bitten. Men are usually more
aroused by nude pictures, thoughts
oi sex, or outer reminders.
A third of women sre not aroused
at all by any psyebosexual stim
uli. But 2 to 3 per cent are far
more aroused than any man.
Trouble often comes when men
expect women to react psycholog
ically as men do. Men often fall
to realize that women are more
easily distracted from sex bv
noises or interruptions. The ease
of male mental arousal accounts
lor nuabands' wanting more fre
quent sexual contact, and men's
difficulty in getting along without
it. Wives often fall to understand
that. ' -
The sex response Involves 20 bod
ily or physical changes, including
faster pulse, higher blood pres
sure, shortage of oxycen. ranld
breathing, lessened ability in sen
and hear.
Anger involves 14 of these same
changes. Anger thus eauau
minus six.
This could exnlaln some km
crimes, "why frustrated sexual re
sponse too readily turns Into anger
ui rage,- or anger can lead on
to sex. It could explain why mari
tal quarrels sometimes lead to
lovemaking.
Fear contains nine of the n re
actions, and epilepsy produces
eight of them. ,
Basically, there's no differ.
In the anatomy and physiology of
sex, response in men and women.

At marriage, about one third nf
women have never had a sexual
climax, through any method. But

No two persons are exactly alike
In their sex lives, none fits en
tirely Into all the averages Klnsey
has yet found.. Each person can
easily believe that what she or he
does is normal.

most persistent reality of human
sexual behavior." And '"There are
no sexual qualities found in only
one sex or the other."
Women show greater extremes
In sex than do men. While some

sex behavior of all American worn
en, much less women throughout

It excludes Negro women be
cause not enough had been inter
viewed, it nas some limitations in
geographical representation, but
Dr. Klnsey says the findings are
probably typical of many Ameri
can females.

relations were more common
among girls who had gone to col'

which is sexually mature, but not
married, and "many youths and
older unmarried females are seri

cially disapproved."

and constant belaboring of any
type of behavior which has become
so nearly universal, and which is
as likely to remain universal, as
petting is among American fe

first real understanding of experi
ence with the other sex. It gives
a girl "an opportunity to learn to
adjust emotionally to various types
of males. Thus sne may acquire
some wisdom in cnoosing tne par
icular male with whom she hones
to make a permanent, life long
adjustment.

such a disease.

try. ' Of 8.000 women questioned,
the case histories of 5,940 form
much of the basis of his new book,
which will be out Sept. 14.
