Change Rule
For Boaters
The charging for boat launching
and vehicle parking will be per
mitted at Bridge Bay Resort effec
tive immedlatly, It was announced
today by Roberts E. Jones, Super
visor of the Shasta National Forest.
Supervisor Jones points out that
the Forest Service has now pro
vided a new boat launeblng area
free to tne puouc wmcn replaces
that formerly available to them at
Bridge Bay. The new area is at
Bailey Cove about 4 miles north
on Highway 99. The new facilitiea
at Bailey Cove were made avail
able last year by the construction
of over one mile of road and the
grading of a parking area. Other
free boat launcning areas avail
able to the puolic are at Centimudl
Creek near Shasta Dam. Salt Creek
Inlet, Antlers, Lakeshore, Sugarloaf
and Jones valley.
The use of the limited spsce at
Bridge Bay both for the develop
ment of a resort and for free pub
lic boat launching and parking has
created a serious overcrowded con
dition which will prevent the full
development for resort purposes.
Rapid expansion of the Bridge Bay
Resort has reached the stage where
full use of the available area Is
necessary to continue this develop

The problem of overcrowding at
Bridge Bay has been the subject of
considerable concern over the past
year. After review of conditions and
the other free faculties available to
the public, the Shasta Lake Advis
ory Council has unanimously rec
ommended to the Forest Service
that the Bridge Bay Resort be al
lowed to charge for boat launching
and parking services. The Advisory
Council was of the opinion that this
action was necessary so that park
inp could be supervised by atten
dants and full development of the
area could proceed.
The cooperation of the public Is
requested in the use of the free
boat launching areas to see that the
cars and boat trailers are parked
properly. This would permit all to
have unobstructed access to the
Lake to launch their boats.
Supervisor Jones further states
that the full program of deve!--.
ment of Shasta Lake as a recrea'.'m
area Includes the expansion of boat
launcning inclliues so that these
areas will be conveniently located
close to the popular boating areas
of the lake. The Improvement of
existing facilities and construction
of new areas under- this program
will proceed as rapidly as funds are
available. .

with it. The only critic who men
tioned it was Robert Benchley, who
said, 'Why throw in just another

Shaw recorded the song and made

hang out in a club on the Sunset!
Strip. Whenever I would walk in, :
the band would play 'Begin the;
Begulne.' Bob would hide his face

' Porter is now resting between!
engagements at his French cha
teau-like home in Brentwood. (He
even files the Tricolor beside the
swimming pool.) Although slowed ,
down physically by his legs, both
broken in a horse fall several
years ago, he keeps up a hot cre
ative pace.
Having put "Can Can" on Broad
way, he returned here to oversee
the film version of "Kiss Me
Kate." with which he is very hap
py. He is starting work on an
other Broadway show, which will
ne announced soon. He has turned
out scores for plays and pictures
wim regularity since the first
World War. Does he ever worry
about running out of ideas?
"No," he replied flatly. "I Just
hope that my mind will stay alert
enough to keep working."
He admitted that shows are
harder to compose these days and
he good-naturedly blames that on
Rodgers and Hammersteln.
"It was easier to turn out tunes
in the old days," he sighed. "But
