death of Mrs. Richard (Marjorie)
jackman, Saturday, May 23, at
racoma, Wash., after a lingering
illness. The Jackmans and their
three children lived here, many
years but moved to Tacoma about
12 years ago.

back at their ranch near Plush
from their home at Brookings, on
iheir annual spring trip. They also

ther the past week with snow on

Mountain.
Charlotte Reichert went to Klam
ath Falls Tuesday to visit her
daughter, Peggy.
Aoout 10 days ago Mr. and Mrs.
George Cox, our Plush stage driv
ers, had a very unpleasant exper
ience. They had sold their home
at Wesisiae and were making a
trip to Ashland and decided to go
oy way of Weed to look at some
trailer houses which were for sale.
As they were neanng Dorris, they
picked up a Negro and woman com
p a n 1 o n, apparently hitchhiking,
and took them on to Weed. They
thanked the Cox's and left and
George and Ella went into a tav
ern to get information. When they
came out and got in their car,
the Negro crowded in with them
and at the point of a, gun (which
he had stolen from th glove com
Dartment of the Cox can, made
them drive him around, finally to
his place. By some miracle, George
and Ella made their escape and got
to their car. While they were driv
ing to Weed to make a report, the
Negro shot and killed the woman.
The Negro was picked up but
later escaped, supposedly making
his way toward Portland. George
and Ella were held from Thurs
day to Monday evening as wit
nesses. Moral: Never, never, never pick
up strange hitchhikers.
Last Friday evenmg the 8th
grade graduation exercises were
held at the community hall at Adel.
Graduating were Darlcne Wake
field and Margaret Schadler of
Adel, and Paul Reichert of Flush.

down on Monday.
Dave McAuliffe, better known as
Frisco Dave, is out of the hospital
and back at Plush, feeling fine.
Omar Sinclair, traveling agent
for the state weather bureau sta
tion, was a Monday caller at Plush.

the cake walk Saturday night. Ted
Emery furnished the music with
the record player from Silver Lake.

Echo arrived May 19 for two

sill removed at St. Charles Hospi
tal. Bohbv Gilder, who was treated
at St. Charles Hospital for a brok

was given for Cherry Webber, who
was six on May 20, at the home
of her grandmother, Mrs. Alice

Don Sanders will move his family
here for the summer from Klam
ath Falls where he is president of
Home Builders' Maintenance Com
pany. The children, Shirley, Ray
and Don are KUHS students. In pre
paration, a crew of men are making
extensive Improvements to the San
ders' living quarters at their apart
ment house here. Mr. Sanders will
commute ot his business during
the summer.

made. Mr. and Mrs. Earl M. Jack
son have installed a culvert in front
of their home which has been cov
ered and planted to a rock gaiden
with native manzanita shrubs and
other indigenous rock plants. En
gaged in this project for the Jack
sons was Mike Moore. Klamath
Falls, with Jackson superintending.

home from Fresno Saturday where
she has spent several montns re
cuperating from an Illness.
