A GRACIOUS LADY WITH A GREEN THUMB who would rather pull weeds than. travel to
the nation's capitol. with her Governor husband, Mrs. Paul Patterson, who is no stranger to
Washington, charmed lady constituents of the Klamath country on her recent visits to our town.
Georgia Benson Patterson is a native Oregonian, says emphatically that she has web-feet,
swims for the fun of it . . admits that she really isn't domestic but does have pet recipes and
dotes on days when her family including a married daughter in Portland, a sophomore daugh
ter at Stanford, an only son, Paul Jr., now in service "somewhere in Korea" and three charm
ing 'grandchildren are all home at the same time to nibble her finger tarts and banana bread
. , , she's a whizz at the business' of making jelly.
Mrs. Patterson, graduate of the University of Oregon in 1924, was assistant to the Dean
of Women at the U of O for two years after receiving her degree, and it was there, close to
the campus Millrace that her destiny was forged . ..it was there that she first cast girlish
glances at a coming young lawyer, who later took her to share his honor as Oregon's I9S2
Republican Governor, at Salem.
She is no stranger to public life, is "comfortable" before audiences . . knows legislative
procedure "backwards" . . deeply feels her responsibility to her busy husband . . loves rain . .
and from a beloved aunt, learned early that every citizen of this land of ours has an obligation
to his country.
Mrs. Patterson has lived in Hillsboro for exactly 25'2 years, "back of the courthouse
and in the shadow of the high school" . . is up to her capable ears in PTA, Garden Club
work, 4-H and Camp Fire Girls activities . . she has even chalked up a "record" . . teaching
boy members of a 4-H cooking class to float.
She is a member of the American Association of University Women, spoke here during
this Spring's state convention . . serves on the state board of education . . . organized the
American Legion auxiliary in Hillsboro . . sends her mother's blessing on wings of love to her
son overseas.
Travelogues and geographical novels are her pet reading . . she sews for relaxation, was
busily stitching on a small garment for a grandaughter'when word of the Governor's appoint
ment was phoned to her.
The First Lady of Oregon is "sister under the skin", to every woman in every hamlet in
this great state who has pride in her husband, adores her grandchildren and knows there's
no other state she wants to call home. . '

TULELAKE The Guild of the
Tulelake Community Presbyterian
Church met in the annex of the
church May 20 with Mrs. H. T.
Street and Mrs. C. J. Proctor,
hostesses for the dessert luncheon.
Mrs. William Schindlcr had de
votions and Mrs. Leonard Meshke
gave an interesting and informa
tive talk on the geography o South
America.
Reports on the recent Presbyter
ial in Medford were given by Mrs.
Carl Jensen and Mrs. A. E. Ruck
man. The Martha circle of the church
voted to redecorate the dining room
in the near future and Mrs. H. T.
Street, Mrs. J. I. Ott, Mrs. Amos
Hoyt and Mrs. A. E. Ryckman
were appointed a committee to in
vestigate prices.
The next meeting has been
changed from the regular date,
June 3 and set up till June 1 due
to other conflicting dates.

were made and chairmen appoint

"Christ Calls to Missions and
Unity" is the theme for the com
ing year.
The custom of making birthday
cakes for residents of the Klam
ath nursing home will be continued
by the churches, that have in the
past taken a cake to the home
each month.
Three special meetings observed
each year are: World Community
Day, World Day of Prayer and May
Fellowship Day.
New officers of the Council are
