to discourage what fa popularly
called the "wicker shift. ' college
lootbal) coaches have recommend
ed one of the most radical rules
changes in years.
The change, to aupplement the
present regulation on false starts,
would make It Illegal for a line
man to make a move once he has
assumed a starting position.
Columbia's Lou utile, chairman
of the Football Coaches Rules Com
mittee, said a lineman would be
subject lo penalty If he reached up
and scratched his nose after once
getting down In what Is known as
a three-point position feet and one
hand on Ihe ground.
Through Little, the coaches pre
sented the recommendation Tues
day along with another proposal
that the T-quarterback, be made
eligible to receive a pasa after
handling the ball from center, He
la now Ineligible.
Tha suggestions now go to the
rules making body, which meeu
next Monday, Tuesday and
Wednesday. The, coaches are only
an advisory body.
The football mentors voted to
keep all other rules virtually in
tact, Including tha controversial
free substitution rule.
