Due Monday
Trial of Keith Edson Peck. 33,
on an Indictment charging negli
gent homicide. Is scheduled to be
gin Monday morning in Circuit
Court.
Peck Is accused of negligent
driving which resulted in the death
of three men Sept. 6 when his car
slammed into the rear end of a
slow-moving flatbed truck on US
97 south of town.
Specifically, he is accused of con
tributing to the death of Lowell
Eugene Wilson, of Dorrls, one of
three pessengers In Peck s car.
Charles H. Sims of Protect City,
Calif., and Albert H. Jones, Cot
tonwood, Calif., also were killed.
The crash occurred at the scene
of another auto accident, where
flares had been set out, and the
truck was driving slowly by the
wreck scene. Peck also was in
jured and was hospitalixed briefly.
On his release from the hospital
here, be was arrested and lodged
In the County Jail, to be released
two days later on 83.500 bail. The
grand jury indictment was re
turned Oct. 13.

A one-year probationary sentence
was Imposed on Lucille Williams.
23-year-old stenographer, in Circuit
Court yesterday afternoon for sell
ing a rented typewriter.
The (irl had pleaded guilty to
a ctUrge bf larceny by bailee, and
told Judge David R. Vandenberg
she pawned the typewriter and
also wrote some bad checks, all
for small amounts, to gel money
for food and for medical treatment
for her 4-month-old baby.
She said she and the child were
abandoned by her husband early
in October, and that she wanted
to return to her home hi Austin.
Tex., where her mother lives.

According to figures compiled by
the railroad's tax department, the
Southern Pacific paid S3.3U.664.43
in taxes In the 17 counties, the
largest amount, $018,094.66 to Lane
County. That accounted for 6.78
per cent of Lane County's total
properly tax bill.
The railroad's Douglas County
lax bill was S17tf.972.04: In Marlon
County It was SIUI),280.3S. Its Lake
County payment was 14,011.10. .
