Safety Told
1. Buy a fresh tree and choose
a small one. It's less dangerous.
Be wary of treea sold as "fire
pro o f." And don't attempt to
flameproof Christmas trees with
chemical solutions. '
2. Keerj your tree In a cold
place an unheated garage is fine
until ready to set It up. And do
not set it up until you are ready
to use it.
3. Before setting up the tree,
saw off diagonally at least an inch
ot trunk, and place base in water
containing holder. Keep water well
aoove diagonal cut at all times.
4. Locate your tree well away
from fireplaces, radiators, tele
vision sets, powerful electric lights
and oiner sources of neat,
5. Never u.e candles (or
decorations. Use only electric
lights, and be sure these and wir
ing bear the Underwriter's Labo
ratories label. Always check wires
for defects and loose sockets be
fore putting them on tree.
(. Since too many light circuits
in one outlet may overload the
house wiring and blow a fuse, dis
tribute the load among several
outlets. A blown fuse means too
many lights on one circuit. Reduce
the load or connect part to an
other circuit outlet. Never increase
site of fuse, or substitute a penny
tor a blown fuse.
7. Turn off the tree lights when
no one is to be in the room for any
length of tune.
l. Do not operate electric trains
under the tree. -
9. Dispose of Christmas gift
wrappings at once.
10. Use only artificial "snow" and
decorations of the flameproofed or
non -combustible type for trimming
your tree.
11. In all places of public as
semblage, locate trees awav from
stairs and other exits, and station
competent watchers with fire ex
tinguishers or water palls nearby.
Keep aisles and exits clear, and
pian aneaa to avoid panic.
12. Move the Christmas tree
lights II the tree's needles near
them turn brown. And when the
needles start, to fall, take the tree
down and discard It.
13. Dispose of old trees In (Ire-
safe areas outdoors not in fur
naces, stoves, or fireplaces be
cause cnristmas trees burn witn
almost explosive violence.
14. In case of fire, call the fire
department immediately.

Highways Reopen .

terday. The community ot Malln,
without power was hence without
a water supply, since Its pumps
are electrically operated.
In areas where power Is gone,
no gasoline ran be pumped in
electric pumps.
A bus-load of high school basket
ball players from Redding, here
for a two-game series with KUH8
over the weekend, was stranded
all day yesterday here. They
stayed In the Wlnema hotel, and
left early today upon hearing the
road south to Reddtpg had been
opened.
The comfnOnfty of Chiloquln was
also reported out of water because
of a power outage which was still
not repaired today. Attempts were
being made to hook up a Southern
Paclllc Railroad tank car to supply
the town. Apparently power Is com
ing as far as the town, according
to reports from up there, but there
are many local circuits out which
have cut off blocks of residences.
Copco's Asst. Mgr. Truman Run
yan reported this morning that a
shot in the dark prediction was all
that could be made. He said his
company hoped to get things in full
repair everywhere by two more
days, though he thought there could
be most of the Jobs done by late
tomorrow.
He said the public had been ex
tremely patient and cooperative,
and that Copco crews were doing
the best possible to restore services.
FORT ROCK

Thanksgiving has come and gone
and we are all thankful for the
many blessings that our country
has IQ offer as.
Imagine that Ralph Griffith of
Klamath Falls was thankful for
being alive oh Wednesday after
noon, Nov. 26, when he met with
an accident. The right front tire
of his truck, an International K-12.
blew, out, causing the truck to
leave the highway about four miles
north of the Fort Rock Junction
and go over a small embankment
about six feet high.
The trailer was very badly dam
aged and the full extent of the
damage to the truck Is unknown.
The lumber on the truck was in
tact although the truck was over
on its left side, the trailer load
of lumber was very badly scat
tered. The truck Is owned by the. Lilly
and Valentine Transportation Co.,
of Klamath Falls and was hauling
lumber from the D. L. McGee
sawmill at Fort Rock to" the
Weyerhaeuser Timber Co:," -at
Klamath Falls.
Ralph was not seriously Injured
and was able to report the acci
dent himself. Jim and Art Wreck1
ers of Klamath Falls towed the
truck back to Klamath.
Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Wilson be
came the parents of an a', pound
baby girl Monday morning, Nov.
24. The baby has been named
Ann. Del Rente is the name of
the other daughter who is a year
and one-half old. ,
The Wilsons left for Bend early
Sunday morning, anticipating
trouble with the car. Bud Parks
followed In his pickup, which
was very fortunate, as a rod went
out of the Wilson's car.
Pastor Paul Gordon of the
Seventh Day Adventlst Church of
Redmond' was the guest speaker at
the Silver Lake Community Church
Sunday morning Nov. 30. The
topic of his sermon was "Walking
with God." Mr. and Mrs. Bud

dren In the class. The meeting is
held every Tuesday at Fort Rock.
Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Enlow and
Sharon Carper left Nov. 26. for
Jerrerson. Ore., to spend Thanks
giving with Mr. and Mrs. A. B.
Cooper. Mrs. Cooper is Mrs. En
low's sister. They returned home
Friday evening.
