Shipments of Klamath potatoes
continued high this week despite
inclement weather, with 80 cars re
ported out yesterday alone, 66 cf
them going by rail.
Nevertheless, total shipments
from this area are still running

had been shipped, and as of yes

Idaho Concern
Has River Plan

Co., has prepared an alternate
plan calling for three Snake River
dams Instead of fire in the area
where the Bureau of Reclamation
has proposed constructing Bells
Canyon Dam, the company an
nounced Tuesday.
Company officials said the alter
nate plan was submitted to the
f ederal Power Commission along
with a request the FPC postpone
for 30 days a hearing set for Jan.
12 on Oxbow Dam.

the second plan proposes combin
ing Brownlee, SturgiU and Bay
horse Dams into a single dam at
Brownlee. This would back up s
15-mile reservoir to Weiser.
Inman said under the proposal,
""private enterprise will be able to
develop the river fully for power
without injury to irrigation and re
clamation, and provide accom
panying flood control benefits. It
also will provide maxlmun feas
ible power benefits downstream in
critical water years.
Inman said the proposal would
furnish one million acre feet of
usable storage while providing
more firm power at- comparable
low cost per installed kilowatt.
Harold Nelson, the reclamation
bureau's regional director, termed
the plan "better than the original."
' "It does introduce storage into
the system," he said.

' ONTARIO, Ore. W More than
I !i million dollars have been sent
to sugar beet growers in this East
ern Oregon area, the Amalgamated
8uirar Company reported Tuesday.
The checks cover partial pay
ment for the 1962 crop, Jed Lewis,
manager of the Nyssa, Ore., plant,
said. Another payment is to be
made about Nov. 25.
Growers received 810 a ton for
beets delivered last month, he said.

the Chicago livestock market were
steady to a cents lower Wednes
day. The market opened slow, but
later trade was fairly active. Top
prices were 316.80 and 816.85.
The slaughter lamb market was
not fully established; however, sev
eral decks sue lots high good to

Three loads of Montana cull to
good, mostly utility and good
slaughter ewes, were sold at 37.50.
In cattle trading, prices were
steady to 50 cents higher on aver

Cows were steady, while bulls
were steady to 50 cents higher.
Vealers were weak to four dollars
lower than early Tuesday. Too
price paid was 838.50 for. few

Edward J. Olson. 66. who lived
here from April 1930 until last Sep
tember died following a brief ni
nes In his home town. He was a
veteran of World War I and re
ceived milllaiv recognition during
the luneral service.
While here Olson was employed
by the Klamath Lumber and Box
Company. Residing here also dur
ing that time were his brother

Olson was one of the volunteers
