Her miitren, Mn. Georgoi Weitbeeu, wa relative of P. V. Bradley, who wet stricken with
heart attack here latt week end died. The funeral wai held Monday. Bradley used to pley
with the lioneit by the hour. Little Tylce't horn, it at Hidden Valley Rench near Seattle. She't

Like the name "Little Tyke"?
Il sounds a lit nickname for the
sweet, gentle Innocence of a six-year-old
child. II la most of that.
The LIHlr Tyke visiting Klajnnth

Innocent, and Is six years old. Lit
tle Tyke la abo an African lioness
all 353 pounds of her.
Visiting Klsmath Falls from Hid
den Valley Ranch, near Seattle,
are Mr. and Mrs, Georges West
besu. Thcv are visitors at the Vlo
Palmer residence, 1128 Crescent.
Mrs. Westbesu Is a relative of the
late p. V. Bradley, whose funeral
was held here yesterday.
Westbesu raises horses on the
Hidden Valley Ranch, along with
other ranch animals. He Is an ani
mal psychologist, and there-in lies
I he story of how he acquired Lit
tle Tyke.
Westbesu was culled In on a con-'
solution of a lioness In Tacoina. j
The big feline killed her young
at birth, and officials wanted to
know why. His dlagnosla wss thsl
the lioness had been tcssed so
much while a rpectacle before the '
public that she didn't want that lot
for her offspring. So she killed
them.
Little Tyke was the last of four
! to be born to that lioness, and Uie
onlv one to live. Tyke s mother re.

of her tiny young, but in that hesi
tation Westbesu rushed Into the 1
csge and snatched up the kitten.
He escaped with several scars on
his arm and leg as the old lioness

been taught to eat meat, which,

pawed kitten would be. Incidental

four Inches from tip to tip.

sary. "Believe It or not," he says.
"I've got lo protect that lion from
people, not the people from the
lion." Even the friendly observer
must overcome fears Imbedded

that huge mouth to feel the teeth,
or let the rough tongue lick the
hand (described by Columnist Hal
Boyle as like shaving with warm,
wet sandpaper).
The lion Is now on her way to
Hollywood where ahe'a to work In
pictures.
WeMbeau has an Interesting phll
osphy which may be borne out In
the way he brought up a Hon as
a household pet.
"Fear alone." he says, "causes
savagery. Little Tvlte knows she
has nothing to fear."
He describes a vicious circle of
fear which separates tame from
wild. Man fears wild animals be
cause they kill men. Consequently,
man kills wild animals. Therefore,
wild animals fear men. They are
not born to fear, he says, but are
taught to fear.
"Always take a young one like
Tyke to train before the eves are
opened. Even a few days with the
mother la enough to learn fear of

and tawny. She's got big teeth,
fire-yellow eyes and InchJong
claws.
But she's got a warm, friendly
heart which emits affection even
tiny children feel. They know no
fear, and Westbeau notes they even
go to Little Tyke for sympathy
and protection.
Maybe Daniel didn't have so
much to do in that lion's den after
all.
