Economists say Uiat marketing
of farm products this yesr will
be at leant four per cent above
1U51 for an all-lime record. Crop
marketings are up alx or seven per
cent and livestock up two or three
per cent. The Economists also ex
pect that farm production goals
lor next year will serve to further
Increase agricultural production.
They expect an fnrm products to
be at record levels.
One economists ssy food msr
uiitiK oi are about iu per cent
higher Uinn a year ago. Last fall
marketing charges took 50 cents of
he consumer's food dollar snd this
yesr 53 per cent with the farmer's
share dropping to 48 cents. It Is
their conclusion that any decline
of lood prices during Uie next yesr
will probably result Irom lower
prices to farmers rsther than any
reduction In marketing costs.
In 1951 meal consumption per
person In Uie United Uutes was
134 pounds. Canada was a little
lower with 139 pounds. Hie average
consumption III Uruguay 335 pound
New Zealand 33B; snd Australia
219. In Europe consumption waa
lower Denmark 10s pounds, Swe
den lf)3, Italy 31, and Greece only
23 pounda per person. Prewar fig
ures In Russia allowed an average
ol 41 pounds.
According to economists the pres
ent heavy slaughter of cattle will
not prevent Uie number of cattle
from rising. Slaughter this year
la t per cent above a year ago.
By Uie first of January economists
expect that a record number of
cattle will be on hand, approxi
mately 93 million head In the U.S.
Thcv think that cattle numbers will
reach 100 million head in 1955.
