LOUISVILLE. Ky. m Approx
imately 35 thoroughbred horses
burned to death Sunday night In a
fire that qulckiy engulfed a big
barn al Douglas Park, a popular
training track In Loujsvllle.
Most of the barns at tne one
time race track were filled with
horses in training and others that
were brought to Louisville for
Monday's oiienlng of the fall race
meeting at Churchill Downs.
However, the fire was confined
to the one barri and officials said
no big-name horses perished. A
large number of those that died
were yearlings getting ready for
their first racing campaign In
1953.
