Stab Victim
Said Critical
A Klamath Indian, Merle Weeks,
Is in critical condition at Klamath
Valley Hospital today from a stab
wound in his left side, and a
Mexican transient, Francisco Gar
cia. 57, has been booked at the
City Jail for assault with a dan
gerous weapon.
The stabbing occurred Saturday
night at 9th and Klamath, and Gar
cia was arrested at 12th and Klam
ath a short time later.
Garcia said he had bought a bot
tle of wine and that be and Weeks
drank it in an alley off Klamath
Avenue. Then he said. Weeks
wanted him to buy more wine, but
that he didn't have any money.
He said Weeks struck him with
his fist because he couldn't get any
more wine, and that started the
light In which Weeks was stabbed.
When Garcia was picked up. he
had a bunting knife scabbard in
his possession, but no knife. He
raid be didn't know what became
of the knife.
Police took Weeks to the hospital
and booked Garcia for being drunk
as well as on the assault count.
Two women who reportedly wit
nessed the stabbing Vivian Tupper
and Pauline Riddle, also were ar
rested for being drunk.

Blast Fatal To
Former KF Man
Frank Davenport. Bremerton Air
port manager, died late at night,
October 10. from injuries sustained
In an explosion two days before.
Davenport and a Bremerton 'ire
man were worklni with acetylene
torches on navy salvage gas tanks.
Tested for safety, one tank had
been opened and Davenport. work
Ins in a pit, started to open a
second when it exploded and Ignit
ed, trapping him.
Davenport was well known here
In Klamath Falls where he had
been a war training Instructor at
the Naval Air Training Station
several years aeo.

The hunting party had ten a Pick
up on a timber trail and hiked
two to three miles "Ho their hunt
ing soot. Moore slaved with Ills
fatally wounded son and Beau
champ returned to the pickup and
drove to the Buck Peak forest
lookout station to summon aid.
From the lookout station, news of
the tragedy was radioed to Klam
ath Forest Protective headquar
ters here and an amouiance aim
rescue crew was ouickly formed
here. Beauchatnp In his first mes
sage, said young Moore "was
either dying or dead" when he
left the accident scene to get help.
That message was received at
KFPA headquarters at 13:60 p.m.
and it was not known positively
that Moore was dead until the
rescue party arrived at the acci
dent scene about 4:40 p.m.
The grief-stricken father was
repeatedly assured bv friends and
persons who investigated the acci
dent that he was In no way to
blame. Many who had hunted with
the elder Moore remarked that he
was an extremely cautious hunter.
Young Moore and his wife be
came parents of their first child,
a son. only a little over two months
ago. Moore was sales manager at
Juckeland Truck and Sales used
car lot.
He was a Klamath Union High
School graduate. Aftler leaving
KUHS, he studied at the University
oi uregon.
His father Is general manager
of Balsiger Motor Company.
Besides his widow, son and par
ents, the young man is survived
by: a sister, Marilyn: paternal
grandparents. Mr. and Mrs. A. B.
Moore: and maternal grandmoth
er. Mrs. Lee Burker.
Funeral arrangements are to be
announced by Ward's Funeral
Home.
