Pelicans
Host To
Axemen
Kenny Young will run tonight.
These are the glad tidings from
the football front today as the Pel
icans wait for tonight's 8 o'clock
kickoff against the unbeaten Eu
gene Axemen on Modoc Field.
Hie doctor's stamp of approval
went on Young's left hand yester
day on the eve of Klamath Falls'
clash with lui foes to the norih.
Young sprained his flipper
against Redding last veck when
the Pels suffered their first defeat
of the season CJa-ui after whipping
Grant and Roseburg.
But Quarterback Bill Suit, who
as counted on to match Eugene's
Jack Henkel in the pitching de
partment, wasn't as lucky. The
Baltic Ground. Wash., transfer
broke his business hand and his
earliest return to the linc-un will be
against Grants Pass, a conference
coun'icr. Oct. 31.
TO START
But Larry Yarnell, bull - pen
thrower behind Salt, did some fan
cy flinging In the second halt of
Klamath's 38-6 win over Roseburg
and will get the starting assign
ment tonight.
If Young's hand bothers him too
much, Jimmy Bevans is ready to
run from Uie left halfback post.
. Cal Gilmore will be at his fam
iliar right halfback position with
Jim Dougherty at fullback.
Otherwise, the Pels are healthy
with Jack Horton and George Han
son at ends, Doug Campbell and
Vernon Pryor at tackles. Matt Del
Fattl and Dick Lundsten at guards
and George Maskell at center.
. M'MBER I
Eugene, rated No. 2 to the As
sociated Press poll, builds its at
, tack on the throwing arm of Jack
Henkel, who has pitched the Axe
men to three straight wins this
season over Roseburg, Spring
field and Cottage Grove.
On the ground. Fullback Bob
Morgan supplies the power, Half,
backs Jerry Wick and Arden
Christianson the breakaway run
ning. End Don Smith has been Hen-
kel's pet target this year.
Tackle Roland Medel and Center
Winston Maxwell leads the Eugene

OSC Ticket
Sales Slump
CORVALLIS I Despite the
promise of good weather, advance
ticket sales for Saturday's Mich
igan State-Oregon State football
game in Portland were reported
dropping off, and attendance esti
mates were revised downward Fri
day from 30,000 to 20.000.
The only explanation appeared
to be that few OSC boosters gave
the Beavers much chance against
the nation's No. 1 team.
The Michigan State squad set up
camp Thursday night at Salem af
ter their arrival by plane.
Coach Kip Taylor, whose Beav
ers upset MSC in 1947, said his
manpower was so thin he could not
field two platoons of top flight reg
ulars. To add to his worries, right
half Jack Pinion remained a
doubtful starter. He has been suf
iering from a sprained back.
