Earl Warren, wife of California's
governor, was reported resting
comfortably following surgery ne
cessitated when she suffered a
compound tracture of her right
foot yesterday.
Mrs. Warren was cleaning out
the garage at the Warren summer
home in Upper Santa Monica Can
yon. A granite slab fell across her
feet. She Is in Santa Monica Hos
pital, where her physician said she
will probably remain for a week.

too," he sighed. "But ours Is even
more strict. We cannot even show
a man and woman kissing. Itn't
that silly? Indians can see all the
kissing they want In American pic
tures made In India.
"Nor' can we depict gangsters,
even though American gangster
pictures play Indian theaters.
I asked him how much of the
female form he could display. "Up
to' here." he demonstrated, point
ing to the upper ankle. But he
added that films could display the
bare midriff, since that Is the cus
tom ol women in parts of India.
"I think lt Is a mistake to try
to keep sex out of movies," he
observed. "Sex Is what has made
the American film Industry so
great, and the lack of It has hurt
the English picture business. Nine
ty per cent ot the foreign pictures
shown In India are American. The
rest of English, with a few Italian
and French."
Kahn reported that the Indian
film Industry makes between 200
and 300 pictures a year. They are
j about the only films seen In rural
luie uik cities.
