with sportsmen from other areas
heading over for the wonderful, un
believable hunting and fishing in
Klamath county.)
There are plenty of so-called old
timers who will shiver in their
boots and predict that any develop
ment of anything will spoil the
country. That it will make a tin
can campground out of the entire
Basin. These crusty old characters
are the same ones who spend most
of the summer lamenting the 'lost'
hunting. And then fighting to keep
outsiders out of here ' in the fall
(or fear they'll kill a duck or
coose. They are also the men, and
women, who have business estab
lishments in town and are tickled
to death to see outside money being

This might cause a bit ot a mess.
Neither party has made provi
sion for instruction of committee
members by their state organiza
tions. They'd have to work this
out by themselves.

Eisenhower's sharp disagreement
with Korean War policy views

get a kick-back within the party
ranks.
The general coupled the criti
cism with an assertion that "real
ly terrible blunders" bi-ought on
the war a direct Jab at the
Truman administration.
But he also said at a meeting ol
Midwestern Republican leaders at
Kansas City, Kan., yestc-raay mat:
1. Because of the"terrible blun
ders." this country had no choice
but to intervene when the Commu
nists attacked the South Koreans
in June, 1950. If It had not done so,
the general added, "we would al
teady be Involved in a very much
greater and more serious thing
than we are today."
But he said that "does not ex
cuse the people that allowed the
conditions to arise that brought
about that emergency."
2. If the Allies attacked Red
China, "we would be . . . starting
another war far more difficult to
stop than the one we are in now."
And he said further that "no one I
know of has presented any feasible
military plan for attaching China."
On that point. Eisenhower ap
peared to be taking direct issue
with Gen. Douglas MacArthur and
GOP members of Congress who
have backed MacArthur's proposal
that the Allies bomb Communist
China's Manchurian bases north of
the Yalu River.
MacArthur backed Sen. Robert
A. Taft of Ohio for the GOP nomi
nation, and Taft has supported
MacArthur's proposed Korean War
policies.
On the other point Elsen
hower's statement that the United
btates had no choice but to inter
vene in Korea, there also are some
Republicans, who hold a different
view. They feel It was a great
mistake to have made the move.
Eisenhower returned from the
Kansas conference by plane last
night after a two-day absence from
his campaign headquarters. He
made a speech in Boise. Idaho,
Wednesday, and then flew to Kan
sas City for the session with GOP
leaders from North Dakota. South
Dekoia. Iowa. Kansas, Nebraska
and Oklahoma.
Aides said he plans a quiet
day today and that he might try
lo get in some trout fishing or golf.
He will lly to New York Sunday for
an address the next dav to the
American Legion's national con
vention. At Kansas City, the general used
a campaign technique which de
lighted his associates he Invited
questions at an open meeting.
They produced some of the
sharpest criticism Elsenhower has
leveled at the administration.
Among other things, the general:
