PORTLAND m Portland may
get its first television station in
operation by Thanksgiving.
The City Council gave the Em
pire Coll Co., New Rochelle. N.Y.,
permission Tuesday to build its
television broadcasting tower on
Council Crest in the west hills.
R. C. Freeman, an agent for the
firm, said the tower would go up
within three weeks, and that the
transmitter probably would go on
me air oeiore mants giving.
The firm is the only one sn far
to bold a Portland television ner-1
mlt from the Federal Communica
tions Commission. A number' of I
other applications are on file.
