Water System
For Chemult
The highway town of Chemult,
0 miles north on US 97, Is to get
a commercial water system.
L. O. Dawson of Thornton, Calif.,
who has numerous pumice mining
claims in the Chemult area, has
been granted a franchise by the
County Court to establish and oper
ate a water system . in tne unin
corporated town.
The franchise Is lor 10 years.
Dawson has obtained a water
right to appropriate water suf
ficient to meet Chemult's needs
from Walker Rim 8prlngs, and also
has obtained agreements to pipe
the water across National Forest
lands, across the Southern Pacific
and Great Northern right of way,
and across US 97.
The Oregon Board of Health has
determined that the water meets
accepted bacteriological standards
of purity, but Dawson's franchise
requires him to make periodic
tests of the water to determine
its purity.
He also was required to post
50.000 liability Insurance. In re
turn for the franchise, Klamath
County is supposed to be paid 8200
a year.
In the past Chemult has ob
tained Its water from various pri
vate wells.
