Improvement Club end their irlrnds
from Crescent, were enterulned at
a potluck luncheon at the home ot
Mrs. Verne I. Brader In honor of
Mm. Charles Coons, Prlnevllle.
Luncheon was nerved at one
o'clock on the afternoon of Wed
nesday, July 15.
Mrs. Coons Is State Historian of
the Oreuon Federation of Garden
Clubs. She Is a graduate from Uni
versity of Louisiana. She majors in
psyhoclogy. She Is a member of
the Iris Society of American, and
an enthusiastic promotor of Iris for
central Oregon. She makes beauti
ful hooked rugs and gave a demon
stration to the group on how to
start rugs and make old rags uuo
something of our own handiwork
and provide Interest tor club work
In Chemult whcu the long winter
months prevent active gardening.
And in addition, she is a talented
artist with water color, making
flower pictures some three dimen
sional In effect. She became inter
ested In painting flower pictures be
cause she hated to see her lovely
Central Oregon flowers wither and
die So. she took lessons and made
her beauUles live forever.
Mrs. Coons lectured at length on
iris culture and brought doiens of
mixed and named Iris with her
which she left in Chemult adlvlsng
that Iris was one of the few flowers
which would do well In this volcanic
ash and with our severe winters.
