Dam Hearing

BAKER 'PI Conflicting reports
on the value to the Pacific North
west or the proposed Oxbow Dam
on the Snake River were present
ed Monday at a Federal Power
Commission hearing.
The Idaho Power company
wants to build the 140.000 kilowatt
dam as a aulck source of power.
Arthur inman. vice president ol
the firm, said the dam could be
built In 18 to 24 months. It would
be one 'of a series of five dams
which the company could complete
In 10 years at a cost of 140 million
dollars, he said.
Howard Sttnson. Boise, attorney
for the Bureau of Reclamation,
criticized the plan. He said he pro
posed Hells Canyon Dam, which
the government wants to build and
operate in the same area, would
generate 1.240,000 kilowatts of pow
er compared with the 390,000 to
830,000 from Idaho Power's pro-
posed live low dams.
