Wednesday called for 30,000 draft
ees m beptember. It faid it would
need 54.000 more men a month for
the final three months of the year.
The Army's September call is
about the same as it was for the
preceding two months.
It called for 29.000 men in
Aueust and 31.000 in July.
The projected draft of 34,000 men
in October, November ana Decem
ber would be higher than any since
March 1951.
In that month nearly a year and
a half aRO 80,000 men were draft
ed, all for the army.
The announced quota for Septem
ber brines to 1.013.430 the total
number of men drafted since
Selective Service resumed opera
tion in Septemoer 1950. '
Of this total, the Army has draft
ed or called for 932.000.
The Marine Corps received M30
draftees during the 10 months end
ing last May In which it supple
mented volunteer enlistments with
selective service inductions.
The Marine Corps announced !,
several months aeo that it did not
olan to resume the use of the draft.
The Navy and Air Force have
depended solely on volunteers.
The defense Department said the
projected increase in inductions
during the last three montns oi mis
year, is necessary to replace men
drafted in the latter pan oi iou
and the early months of 1951.
Men who enterejl the service at
that time will be eligible for sepa
ration by the end of the current
year.

Casualties
Show Increase
WASHINGTON W The De
fense Department Wednesday re
ported the biggest weekly increase
in VS. casualties in the Korean
war since last Nov. 14.
The department listed 965 cas
ualties in the week ended last Friday.

Mast of the American cacualties
last week were in the Army, which
listed 799 persons killed, wounded
or missing in Korean fighting.
There were 151 Marine victims,
11 from the Navy and four from

casualties in the fighting to 111,576.

been consulted before the raids.
Churchill warned the House that
the motion, while technically aimed
at his cabinet, "realiy falls on the

Adoption of the motion could

Lost Here
A golden cocker pup, whose mas
ter is serving witn the armed
forces in Korea, was lost here yes
terday. The dog apparently lumped
out of a car between Berg's Serv
ice Station. Esplanade and Wall
Streets, and the carnival sue,
South Sixth Street at Shasta Way.
Mrs. Marv Wcatherly. San Diego,
who is caring lor ner son s oog,
Toots, while the son is in Korea,
is here visiting the Vernon Durants.
Yesterday,- Mrs. Weatherly drove
away from the service station with
the dog in the car. When she
stopped at Shasta Way and South
Sixth Streets, she noticed the dog
missing from the car.

Indian Bureau.
The probe was ordered in a voice
vote taken on a resolution by Rep.
Ellsworth (R.-Ore.l. The resolu
tion said there were irregularities
in land transactions by tne bu
reau's employes InOregon. It or
dered the committee to determine
whether present laws regulating
the bureau's handling of Indian
lands are adequate.
The committee will report before
the new Congress is sworn in next
Jan. 3.
In a separate action, the bureau
was directed to determine how In
dians will be able to manage their
own affairs without government
control.
