Amateur gardeners wll) be able
to protect their plants from insects
and disease with a "weathetoroo"
spray this yenr for the first time.
This new plant 'buit-and-dtieast
killer lnuahs at rain and weather.
It Is elastic and stretches as the
plant mows. Wind and heat do not
dissipate It and it stays on the plant
through the heaviest rains. In this
recently-Introduced product, an ad
hesive, a latex derivative which
holds the chemicals on the plant,
has been added to proven chemi
cals, lncludlnit fermate. DDT and
rotenone. Home Hardeners can now
cut garden work In half because
of less frequent suravlmt.
The new product was developed
bv an amateur snrdruer from Jeff
erson. Iowa. Afier rain washed the
snrav from his 1200 rose bushes on
six consecutive niRhts. Frank Mil
lltran. a lumber and grain man
from the small Hawkeve town, be

spray for his own rose garden, the

ASKED HELP
He sought the advice of 64 col
leges and universities with horti
cultural departments. The schools
agreed on Insecticides, fungicides
and fertilizers, but it was from a
sub-tropic area that he learned of
an elastic wef.therprool sub
stance that defies downpours with
out impeding normal plant growth.
He found, also, that the adhesive
had been tested bv the Boyce
Thompson Research Institute and
found effective.
During the 1951 season, the de
termined amateur added the ad
hesive to established chemicals for
use In his own garden. His garden
flourished, and the immediate tn
i terest in the new product, among
both individuals and garden clubs,
encouraced Mr. Milligan to market
the product. It is now available m
both sprav and dust form. Addi
