Teachers Bid
Life of Ease
A pleasant custom which has
grown up in the last few years
among Klamath County teachers is
that of honoring their members
who reach official retirement age.
Mrs. Josephine Penrod and Mrs.
Elsie Burton were thus honored
with a dinner by their fellow teach
ers at the cafeteria of the Al'.a.
mont Junior High School, May 21.
Fred Peterson, former Klamath
County school superintendent, mas
ter of ceremonies, recalled many
incidents in his administration in
which Mrs. Penrod and Mrs. Bur
ton were particpants. Mr. A. R.
Mallard, principal of Fred Peter
son Elementary School, -and Mr.
A. C. Olson, principal of Altamont
Junior High School, spoke in praise
of the two teachers, and Mr. Loy
Barker, former principal of the
Chiloquin Elementary school also
spoke highly of Mrs. Burton.

and guest books for remembrance,
were presented, and responses
were made by Mrs. Burton and
Mrs. Penrod.
Eighty teachers and friends at
tended the dinner, which was ar
ranged by Ellen Kenaup, Mrs. Alice
Tomlin and Mrs. Ethel Pankev of
Fred Peterson School, and Mrs.
Irma Quick, Mrs. Maxine Burritt
and Veva Liskcy of Altamont Jun
ior High School. Mr'. Christine
Murray and Mrs. Ottle Ashley
handled the guest books, and the
dinner was prepared by Mrs. Allen
Bates and Mrs. Otto Clawson of
the Altamont Cafeteria staff, and
was served by Altamont Junior
High School girls.

sented its annual Achievement Day
to a large crowd of parents and
friends May 27. 1:30 p.m. An ex
cellent program and songs and
dances by the six grades was given
in the gymnasium, cniloquin win
ners in the Klamath County Schools
Soil Conservation program were
also presented, and awards made.
Fine work of the students in art
and letters was on display in the
school rooms, and teachers greet
ed many parents who came to In
spect the achievements their ctul
dren had made during the year.

teachers assisting. Mrs. M. L. Ray
