REDS GUARD REDS Communist prisoner of war re
strains a fellow captive attempting to escape through the
barbed wire fence surrounding the compound on Koje Is
land. The POW was apparently trying to reach newsmen
who have been barred from talking with the inmates.
The Reds have posted their own guards within the com-

pounds to prevent their own men from escaping. .
Utley Death
Time Check
Raymond Utley, whose battered
body was found In pasture on
his ranch belpw Lorella Saturday,
apparently died Friday morning.
He was gored to death by a ltts
pound bull In the pasture.
Sheriff Red Brltlon and Deputy
Coroner Clarence Ward examined
the. body and learned that Utley,
who lived alone, had been doing
some work on a bunkhouse at a
neighboring ranch but had tailed to
come to work Friday morning.
Apparently ne went into ine pas
ture at the far end ol his 180 acres
and was attacked by the bull.
The ground waa turned up tor
several yards around, Brltlon said,
where the animal had tossed and
trampled the 69-year old man. Ev
ery bit of bis clothing had , been
ripped off.

Erickson Rites
Set Thursday
Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie
Erickson, who took her own life by
hanging Saturday, are to be held
at Fort Jones, Calif., next Thurs
day. Dard's Funeral Home was ar
ranging to send the body to I'ort
Jones.
The women's body was found
hanging In the bathroom of her res
idence Saturday shortly before noon
by 8herlft Red Brltton. Mrs. Erick
son. a widow, had operated a small
grocery at her home, 615 N. 2nd,
for 14 years.
However, she was crippled from
