mitting outfit for the Klamath Air Search and Rescue Unit. Testing the rig alongside
KASRU's disaster car, above, are Mike Payne, son of KASRU Secretary Margaret Payne,

Girl Murder

Campbell was shot by 15-year-old
Elmer Harlan Belcher's gun. but
the shot was not fired by the boy.
a defense attorney said in circuit
court here Tuesday.
The boy is on trial for first de
gree murder in the fatal shooting
of Mary Campbell, 18-year-old deai
mute who was killed near her farm
home in the Cottage Grove area
April 4.
The boy's attorney, Herbert
Lombard, told the court he woiLd
present testimony to show that a
man told young Belcher to bring
the gun into the wocds.
Lombard said th? boy would
testify that Mary Ellen's grand-
lamer who Lombard did not iden-
tify by name 100k the gun and i
motioned Mary Ellen to follow him
into tnc woods.
Elmer will testify that he heard
two shots aril then saw the man
run out of Uie woods, Lombard
said. The man gave the boy the
gun and told him to say ha (Eimer)
had shot her, Lombards said his.
client would testify.
District Attorney C. E. Luck.y
said in his opening statement that
he would present a wire recording
made at the time the boy was
Questioned about the shooting. Ear
lier Luckey s;"id Belcher shot the
girl because his friends had teased
him about her pregnancy.
First witness Tuesday was the
slain girl's father. Dana Camp-
bell. He told of hearing two shots
in the woods and test'fied that
Belcher had been working near
the Campbell farm.

Plans for commencement are go
ing forward rapidly, for the event
is now only two weeks from tonight.
The Senior class has planned a
Class Day assembly for Thursday
morning. May 15 at 11 o'clock in
the high school auditorium. Senior
awards will be presented at this
time. Scholarships, at the request
of the class, will be presented at
the graduation exercises.
Class Day "Will be a big and im-.
portanl event for the seniors, so
all parents and interested friends
are invited to attend.
Also progressing rapidly are
plans 'for the Senior banquet, which
will be in the school cafeteria. 6al

staffs were announced at the publi
cations banquet, May 6, when Car
