There are many ways to pre
pare chicken and one of the best
l.i the simplest. It's a delicious pot
pie with chicken, vegetables and
mushrooms in a rich cream sauce,
topped with a crisp com flakes
butter mixture.

CHICKEN PIE PALMER HOUSE
3 cups cooked chicken I
1 cup cooked carrots
12 cooked onions
12 cooked potato balls
2 cup button mushrooms
4 tablespoons shortening or
chicken fat
tablespoons flour
, ?i teaspoon salt
dash pepper
l'i cups chicken stock
1 cup thin cream or milk
2 tablespoons melted butter
-i or margarine
3 cups corn flakes
Arrange pieces of chicken which
iisve been removed from bone, car
rots, onion, potato balls and mush
rooms in six individual casseroles.
Melt shortening add flour and
seasonings; add chicken stock and
cream slowly, stirring constantly.
Cook over low heat, stirring fre
quently until thickened. Pour over
chicken and vegetables. Sprinkle
melted butter over com flakes and
stir until each flake is buttered.
Cover tops of casseroles with corn
flakes. Bake in preheated very not
oven (500 F.) 10 to 15 minutes.
Yield: 6 individual casseroles.

the Hood River Valley and at The

and cherry crops. The first bloom

mette Valley, damage was spotted.
Although rain retarded spring
farm work it helped pastures and
early crops. Moisture conditions
have returned to about normal for
this time of year in Western Ore
gon, the report said. Rain Is still
needed in Eastern Oregon.

hind normal in Eastern Oregon
because of the long winter.

Power Voted
WASHINGTON iB The Senate
voted Wednesday to give the feder
al government power to enforce
safety measures in the nation's
coal mines.
A voice vote passed the legisla
tion and sent it to the House.
At present, enforcement of mine
safety is left to the states.
Federal Inspectors can only make
recommendations.
The Senate bill would permit the
Eecretary of Interior to fix safety
standards.
Federal inspectors could close
down a mine if they found a condi
tion of Imminent danger.
Ben. Neely D-W. VA.) sponsored
the bill. A federal law has long
been sought by John L. Lewis, head
of the Coal Miners Union.
