Carroll, 28, accused of embezzling
$17,000 from the Ontario Wood Pro
ducts Co., took the money to buy
presents for a woinon. police said
Carroll said he stole the money
to "squander foolishly on a woman
I thought I was In love with,'1
police said. He refused to name
the woman but said she lived at
Ontario, Ore.
He said he bought her among
other things a S4.0W) car, S3. 600
worth of furniture and appliances.

He told the woman he got the
money from black market opera
tions during World War II, po
lice quoted him as saying.
In a signed statement Carroll

lumber concern In Boise. Idaho,
and then used bogus lumber In
voices lo . lake - money from his
firm.
He was discharged by. the firm
