the 'Pioneers, who had held first
place and are unbeaten by other
conference teams.
Ted Loder, a keen-eyed forward,
and Doug Logue a polished cen
ter were Willamette's deadliest
marksmen in its 86-79 and 82-69 vic
tories. Loder registered 53 points
and Logue 39.
Lewis and Clark played the sec
ond game without its ace forward
Ken Servas, who suffered an in
jury while scoring 19 points In the
first contest. John Feuz, the Pio
neers's big center had a two-game
total of 29.
Willamette could just about
clinch the championship by beating
fourth-place Whitman and cellar
dwelling College of Idaho next Fri
day and Saturday.
Pacific swept a two-game series
from Linfield, 1951 co-champion
with Willamette, to move into third
place. The scores were 70-62 and
71-64. Forward Julian Amaya
parked Pacific with 29 points.

At Wickenberg

Klamath Falls, won the Wicken
berg, Ariz., Country Club cham
pionship, Reames Pro Earl
Schneiter announced today.
Mrs. Farrens, with her husband,
Is a non-resident member of the
Wickenberg Country Club. They're
vacationing there. Ellen shot an 88

The Idaho Vandals, still holding
a faint hope of taking the Northern
Division, Pacific Coast Conference
basketball title, have two shots at
tailend Oregon State this week be
fore tackling defending champion

And the Vandals who split a
pair with Oregon over the weekend
49-56 and 77-66. will need to sweep
the series at Corvallis Monday and
Tuesday to remain In the running.
A pair of victories will leave the
Idahoans a game behind Washing
ton when they meet at Moscow Fri
day and Saturday.
Oregon and Oregon State tangle
in another Friday-Saturday series,
while Washington State, the fifth
Northern Division team rests.
The Washington Huskies, eighth
ranked nationally in the Associated
Press poll, pulled two games ahead
of Idaho with 69-56 and 54-37 week
end wins over Oregon State.
Deadeye Bob Houbregs 6 foot t
center, counted 30 points Saturday
night in pacing Washington to its
10th conference win of the season.
Houbregs connected for 11 of 14
shots from the Hem tor a new
school record. LaDon Henson set
the previous record of 7 for 10 in
1951. Oregon State's best challenge
came in the second quarter when
the Beavers spurted to close the
margin at halftime to 29-21.
Idaho and Oregon battled on
even terms for most of the Vandal-
Duck tilt at Eugene. The game was
tied seven times before Herb Mil
lard's field goal, with eight minutes
left, put the Vandals ahead to stay.
