Davis is accused of knifing a
California Indian. Stanlev John, in
a fight November 23 at Payute
camp near Beatty. John was
stabbed three times in the stomich
and spent live days in the hosi."jU.
Hicks is accused of shooting two
Indian service officers in the early
hours of November 25 on Main
street In Chiloquin.
Officer Virgil Wilson was shot In
the left shoulder and Officer Don
Campagna nicked on the right
hand.
Testifying this moming at the
hearing Wilson said the shooting
occurred about 2 a.m.
Wilson stated he and Campagna
were patrollng in a oovernment
car when they heard three shots.
He said they saw a Jeep parked
- by the telephone office and Hicks
at the door of the building.
Wilson said Hicks came up to
the left side of their car and asked
If they had seen a couple of fel
lows by the name of Cliff and
Mallory Wilson.
Officer Wilson testified Hicks
aaid the Wilsons had "tried to mess
him Up and he was out to straighten
things out."
Then Wilson said. ' Hicks asked
Campagna about "120 Campagna
owed him for deer hides."
Campagna reportedly told Hicks
he knew nothing about the $20, and
then Hicks drew back from the
car and said. "I'd just as soon
shoot you then."
Wilson said Hicks drew a pistol,
fired three shots Into the govern
ment car the third one catching
Wilson in the left shoulder and
then fired two more shots before
running up an alley between the
telephone office and Gienger's
tore.
Campagna took after Hicks. "Wll-

but he got away. He was caught
