Hollywood is makln a picture
about them and it's guaranteed to
be accurate.
At least that's what its makers
claim. The movie is called "Dead
line U.8.A." and its writer-director
is Richard Brooks, who as the
old saying goes, used to be a news
paperman himself. He worked on
space rates in various cities and
held down regular Jobs on papers
in Philadelphia and Atlantic City.
The studio has constructed a
newspaper city room that looks
more authentic than most of those
whipped up for movies. Patterned
after the New York Daily News,
it has the appearance and smell
of a newspaper office. I noticed
no bottles or blondes sitting on the
desks. ,
"This 'is going to be the real
McCoy," assured Humphrey Bo
gart, who plays the managing edi
tor (with a crew-cut toupee). "No
reporter is going to come running
through the city room shouting
Scoop 1 8 top the cresses! This is
going to tear the town wide
open.' "
The city room will neither be a
hub-bub of noise and activity, nor
will It have a funeral hush. Be
hind the dialogue will be heard the
normal sounds of ringing tele
phones and clacking teletypes.

Under Way, Offices To Be
Shifted All Way Around
An almost complete Job of re-,
modeling the interior of the city,
hall is now underway, directed by
Klamath Falls Building Inspector
Walt Salsbury.
Virtually every office of the city ,
government will be moved from
where it is now someplace else.
The moves were made possible
by construction of the new Jail
back of the city hall. The police
department, which had occupied
the entire first floor of the city
ball, moved in there last week.

private offices down to the first

pal business office. Persons coming
to city hall with the general run

Jail is to be cleaned - out and

sort of gymnasium room and small
arms range for police officers.
City ball was built in 1914 and
