Mrs. D. Leigh Colvln, national
president of the WCTU, said mer
chants should get "bark in step

crime committee."
Mrs. Colvln took a look at toy
counters and found "toy roulette

and race horse and dice games."
"Not only that, but there were
toy guns and "outlaw costumes."

program for the celebration of

Sidney E. Dickinson painted the
three-quarter length portrait of the
Confederate commander.
The unveiling will mark both
Lee's birthday and the 100th an
niversary of the day he became
superintendent of West Point.

That Is what a tearful 10-year-old
boy told police who questioned htm
Saturday following his unsuccess
ful attempt to hold up a Portland
grocer.
"You hear Uieso guys on the
radio pulling these Jobs and it
seems real easy like. I Just wauled
to see If It was," the boy ex
plained. The grocer, John E. Myers, was
quoted by police as saying the boy
masked with a red bandanna en
tered his store and, pointing a load
ed 38-caltber revolver at him. said:
"This is a holdup. Put the money
in a sack or I'll shoot you."
Myers started to hand the money
to Uie boy with one hand but with
the other lie grabbed the boy's
gun hand. After a brief struggle,
he subdued the lad, a sixth grader,
and called police.
The boy said he got the gun
from an 11-year-old companion who
had taken it from his home. He
was turned over to juvenile author
ities.

cide plans.

breaking In a nearby tourist home.
Investigating, thev were told by
a tenant that a man Inside was

and ripped out a screen on the
front door to reach McOraw's
apartment, where thev found htm
in the kitchen with the gas stove
Jets open.
They broke kitchen windows to
let in air, turned off the gas and
carried McGraw to the front lawn,
where he was revived.
There police took over, thanking
the boys for their work in helping
save the man's life. McGraw was
removed to a hospital.
