"It's time we stopped making
all our pictures so they can be
seen by children," he remarked.
"The kids go to the movies any
way. The people over 30 are the
ones we have to get Into the the
aters and we can only do that by
making more adult films. These
mature people have been stur.R
too many times by Immature and
childish pictures."

a liberalizing of the cole so that
sdult sub.iects can be treated as
long as they are done In good
taste.
"Naturally, the children have to
be proiecte-1. But thrt should be
done by the parents, not the
film Industry. The welfare of my
children Is Important to me more
Important than the movie business.
There are pictures which I think
are too mature for them to see.
and I do not allow them to see
such pictures. But I also do not
want to deprive adults of the right
to fee those films."

The film maker offered two oth
er suggestions for rebuilding film
patronage:
1. Making stars out of director's
and writers.
"I think the producers have
made a mistake In placing all the
emphasis on actors In the billing
of pictures." he commented. "Why
couldn't directors and writers be
publicized also, so the discrimin
ating movie goer could better know
what to expect when be goes to
the movies.
"This is done In Europe. The
pictures of Carol Reed In England
DeSIca in Italy and Duvlvler and
Rene Clair In France have a
readv market, because patrons rec
ognize there names and know
thev can expect a certain kind ol
picture.
"But In America there are only
two names of directors which
mean anvthlng at the box ofilce

"bang ' when a rousing victory
assembly was held this morning
to celebrate and congratulate the
Pelicans on their 13-13 victory
over the Tornadoes. Our team
was certainly In the "limelight" at
school today. Pep peppers and
rally squad were In uniform to
help celebrate the occasion.
State press conference was the
destination of six members of the
Krater and El Rodeo stalls- Held
at Eugene Friday and Saturday
they left early Saturday momlng
to take part In the last day ol
the conference.
Bringing together high school
news staffs from various cities of
the state to discuss all phases ol
high school Journalism was the
purpose of the conference which
met at the new Erb memorial
union building on the University of
Oregon campus.
Participating on the sports panel
was Clayton Hannon who Is the
only person from Kit who took
part in the program.
There were two officials from
Krater and El Rodeo and one
staff member who went unofficial
ly. The officials had their ex
penses paid and spent the night
at fraternity and sorority bouses.
Official delegates who went from
the Krater are Clayton Hannon
sports editor and Mildred Mitchell
associate editor. Those from the
El Rodeo staff are Lyn Perkins
editor and Patty Teale associate
editor and Dick Dewey sports
editor.
The first student body meeting
of the year was held Inst week
to discuss a constitutional amend
ment providing a special election
time for a permanent vacancy of
any student body officer. The
amendment was presented and
discussed by a panel group with
John Oliver acting as chairman.
Other members were Bev Eells
Ron Hcrshberger Marvin Nerseth
and Dick Swanson.
Also under discussion was an
Idea presented by Marilyn Miller
senior on the behalf of her
homeroom that a twlrp season be
established at KU twlrp meaning
"the girl Is requested to pay."
Although nothing definite has
been done about It yet the stu
dent body was enthusiastic espe
cially the masculine population.
