now, Lana is more than

turned here June 30 to begin "A
Life of Her Own on July 14. Five
months and lire scripts later, ahe
la still waning to suit the picture.
"It's none of my doing that we
ha vent started." she said. "Every
body agrees that the script Is sull
a pile of Junk.
"I'm anxious to get started. By
the time Hits one comes out. It will
be almost three years since I was
last on the screen In Three
Musketeers" I dont think It's
healthy to stay off the screen that
long.
"I would like to either start mak
ing pictures again or give them up
one or the other. But I dont
Uke this waiting."
She added that ahe preferred to
stay In pictures, at least for a
while. "But that doesn't mean I'm
going to do them until I'm W years
old."

Wholesale prices for the better
trees were around 30 cents a lineal
foot. Add transportation costs, busi
ness overhead, profit and you can
tie up quite a little sum in that
bit of evergreen around which your
presents will lay Christmas morn
ing.
Local Scene
Klamath Palls resiaenu are more
fortunate, living near an area where
they can either cut their own tree
or purchase from local stands at
cheaper prices.
Cutting of Christmas trees at high
elevations has been completed but
some cutting on private land is still
going on In the basin.
"All designated trees In the na
tional forest reserve area have been
cut for some time," according to R.
L. Cooper, chief of the national for
est service here.
"Shasta fir trees were sold this
year for 10 cents lineal foot In
tree lots and white fir sold for a
few cents less," Cooper continued.
"White fir trees grow at lower
elevations and do not retain their
needles as long as Shasta fir. Most
of the higher elevation trees were
cut by October 15. and have been
stored for shipment since then."

Chicago purchase many of the Shas
ta firs from here." he said. "Al
so many of the later cuttings go to
the Los Angeles and San Francisco
markets."
Cutters usually start shipment
Immediately after Thanksgiving
and stands may be found ail over
the country selling trees until the
last minute.
Daily, truck and trailer loads of
Christmas trees can be seen pa
trig through Klamath Palls, south
bound for California markets.

The student at Monroe voted to
give up their annual Christmas
treat of candy from the school
principal. Mrs. Fern Keltner. The
candy will be sent to the British
pupils of Mrs. Ruth Lewis. Hamil
tonian now teaching in Acton.
Mrs. Keltner wrote to Mrs. Lewis
siting what the British children
would like for Christmas. Mrs. Lewis
replied they would be thrilled to
get candy. She pointed out that In
England children are allowed only
one-fourth of a pound of candy a
week, and treats are few and far
between.
Thirty-six pounds of mixed hard
candles will be sent the Acton children.
