bureau of Investigation to be given
a part In protection of children
from sex crimes.
Horrified by what he called "ever
Increasing" crimes of tins nature,
Chelf announced that he will try
to make It a federal offense to
molest a child aesually. He also pro
posed setting penalties of from 10
year to death.

believed such action would be a
effective at curbing degenerates who
prey on children as the Llndberg

Amendment
Noting that It may be necessary
to amend the constitution to place
auch crimes under FBI Jurisdiction,
Chelf said he would propose such
an amendment If that Is needed.
The congressman said In a state

"Apparently." he continued, "the
state laws are Insufficient to cope
with this great menace to society."
