NW Radar Air
Defense Test
Officials Mum
SEATTLE. Nov. 7 ,Pv The air
force test of its Pacific Northest
radar screen continued today under
a veil of semi-secrecy.
Although the operations were pro
ceeding under the guiding band of
Mat. Gen. John E. UDston. Fourth
air force commander, and other top
air force officials, none would dis
close how the areas "defenders"
fared against the Intermittent mock
raids of B-29s and B-SOs.
Results of the 11-day test will not
be disclosed for about a month, or
until reports are checked over tn
Washington. D. C officials said.
Nearly 5000 men and 200 planes
are involved in the test which has
ben officially dubbed "Operation
Overgreasy." Defenders are based
at six fields in Eastern and West
ern Washington. Oregon and British
Columbia. Bombers of the 15th air
lorce are the "Invading" forces.

Basin Land
Rush Seen
v EPHRATA, Nov. 7 MV-The rush
to settle the Columbia basin proj
ect will make the Cherokee Strip
rush in Oklahoma 50 years ago look
"like child's play." Reclamation
Commissioner Michael W. Straus
said here yesterday.
Straus, who was to leave today
for Portland, spoke during ground
breaking ceremonies lor a $750,000
reclamation headquarters building.
At Spokane Saturday, the recla
mation commissioner refused to be
drawn into the controversy over
the proposed Columbia valley ad
ministration bill.
"I am promoting the reclamation
program. I am not commenting on
the CVA," Straus said.
