Murder Ends
Reunion
Of Couple
PORT ANGELES, Not. 1
Death, in the person of a rejected
suitor, brought a suddrn end last
nifht to the reunion of a young
mother with her divorced husband.
Prosecutor Dana E. Harper sa:d
the woman. Mrs. Winona B. Medley.
24, was shot and killed by Ted
Bishop, about 40. Bishop then killed
himself.
The tragic ending took place In
the woman's home only a few hours
after she and her estranged hus
band. Henry R. Medley, had been
remarried by a Justice of the peace.
Trafc Witness
Mrs. Medleys four-year-old son
(are neighbors their first news of
the shooting. Harper said, when he
came running to then- trailer crying:
. "Bishop's shot mother."
Police found Mrs. Medley on the
kitchen floor, a bullet hole between
the eyes. Bishop was sprawled a
lew feet away, shot In the temple.
The shooting occurred several
hours after Medley had gone to
work in a local paper mill. Their
17-months-old daughter was In an
other room.
Divorced, He-wed
The prosecutor said the Medleys
were married In 1945, separated less
than six months ago, obtained a
divorce which became final October

Bishop, a part-time longshore
man, courted Mrs. Medley during
the separation. Harper said.
Approximately ISO families lire In

la stand by for evacuation at
moment's notice.

Several hundred firefighters, aided
by bulldoeers, are on the line.

Less than ten mil northeast of
here, near Saugus, an army of 400
firefighters hoped to control a (lie
that has burned over 7000 acres In
three days soon. The fire, first
major one of the year In Angeles
national forest, was touched off last
Friday by the crash of a small plan.

Pi Premier Marshal Tito has
strengthened his armed forces in
recent weeks as a defensive measure
against a background of heighten
ing war of words with Moscow and
the cominform.
Tito has bolstered his army with
a regular autumn call-up of re
cruits. He also has returned to
service a number of reserve officers,
technicians and specialists.
However, this does not amount
to a general mobilization of reserves.
Tito has declared his army must
remain in a state of alert, saying
that hostile cominform countries
have been "rattling their arms" at
Yugoslavia's borders. Under these
circumstances, the steps taken can
best be described as preparedness
against the possibility that Russia
might order her satellites, and even
possibly her own soldiers, into Yugo
slavia. A call-up of troop at this tune
of year is customary.

beth Lawrence head the cast of
"The Heiress." which will be the
first play presented by the Civic
Drama Festival under the sponsor
ship of the Oregon Tech student
body.
The play will be presented at one
performance starting at S o'clock
Friday evening in the campus the
atre. The cast of the play Is now
on tour of the country for the sea
son's appearances.

All members of the cast have been
active on Broadway and in summer
stock theatre work.
